CHARLIE LANE – „Gold Drips“ + Exclusive Interview

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Probably a whiskey sour or for the non alcohol drinkers, a lemon lime and bitters.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

New single Gold Drips just landed on all streaming platforms March 8 alongside the Video Clip By Marcus Coblyn which you can find on Youtube. Album ‘I’m OK Now, But I Wasn’t” will be out later this year so keep a lookout. Single launch was last night so I’m exhausted and there’ll be more updates on shows soon.

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I don’t know about this one, but geez I would love to meet an alien and if it looked anything like E.T I would do exactly what the kids did in the movie too! How cute was that little creature.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I’d say somewhere between Coco Chanel, retro, and urban street wear. I like to mix it up and keep it as eclectic as my music.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

The latest release, Gold Drips is written around enmeshed families, and a co-dependent relationship I was in at the time. It’s very much a song about what it is to be stuck in a position of loyalty and remembering that you can put up boundaries for yourself and leave what you need to behind.

I guess most of my songs off the upcoming album are quite personal and dark lyrically and I try to juxtapose some of them with shiny synths and upbeat tempos just so it’s still a fun vibe however, I don’t shy away from the truth in my music and this album was written quite a while back when I was going through a lot. I mean that’s why the title is so straight to the point. “ I’m OK Now, But I wasn’t”.

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I can say the alphabet backwards pretty fast? I mean I’m not sure if that’s classified as a talent. But it was pretty hard to learn.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I tell terrible dad jokes on stage.

I’m a disabled artist. POTS, CP and epilepsy. ( acronyms for everything these days) look them up if you will.

My music is really eclectic. I really just never wanted to be pigeonholed. I know that can be a bad thing but I think it can also be a great thing. You get to collaborate with so many artists from so many genres. You also get to write in so many different ways!

I’ve co-written most of this album with a good friend and my session guitarist, who just happens to be a multi-instrumentalist ( you know those guys you hate) with Adam Heath.

I get so much inspiration from seeing other female artists excel at their work.

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I’ve been writing songs since I was a teen. I just had the need to get things off my chest and onto paper, it was a way of expressing myself as I didn’t always feel comfortable doing so via talking. I studied music at JMC academy in Melbourne when I was in my early twenties and started performing live as Charlie Lane with various session musicians ever since.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

This is tricky.

Q – Is your last name really Lane? Where did you come up with it?

A – Nope, it’s not.

I was at uni studying music and I was on the tram with my guitarist who I was working on my recital with. I was really into The Streets ( the band) at the time and said to him “what do you think my official artist name should be” we glared out the windows of the tram and I told him I really wanted it to be Charlie “Street” or something. We passed Banana Alleyway near Flinders Street Station in Melbourne and I was like “Charlie Alleyway?” laughed, then the next one we spotted was Flinders Lane.

Charlie Lane just felt right.
