If you reside in a small house or apartment, you probably know how problematic it can be, but it can also have its perks; just look at how popular tiny homes have become recently. After all, everything is within reach, and there isn’t much square footage to clean! It should also be good motivation to maintain some order by living a relatively minimalist lifestyle. It can be frustrating and, frankly, overwhelming since it can get out of control quickly, sparking feelings of claustrophobia and anxiety. Fortunately, all hope is not lost. Many people can empathize and have shared great ideas for solutions to this situation.

Declutter Your Home

The first step in the process to maximize minimal space is to declutter. This means getting rid of anything you don’t want or need and anything you haven’t used in a long time. There are different options for letting go of items, and the best method is to sort these items into sell, donate, recycle and throw away. Sell whatever you can, either online like eBay, Facebook Marketplace or have a yard sale. Keep these things separate in a housekeeping cart or something similar. Then, begin listing them for sale as soon as possible. Things that you can’t get anything out of but are in decent condition donate to a charity that can either sell it and make money (e.g., a thrift store) or a place that can use the stuff (e.g., a homeless shelter). Be sure to recycle anything recyclable that is no longer useful to anyone, and discard the rest.

Look Up

Most people have a lot of unused verticle space that can solve many clutter problems if you know how to use it. Put up high shelves and hang different types of decor throughout your home from the walls and ceilings. Place plants in hanging pots near windows to free up some table and shelf space. Besides offering much more room, decorating in different configurations can also make your place look more attractive.

Be Creative To Make the Most of All Storage Spaces

A small home or apartment will naturally be small everywhere, even in areas specifically made for storage. When you have to take advantage of every square inch of your place, it pays to organize so that you not only use as much space as possible but also in a way that you can easily find and access what you need. Take some time to consider what you will be storing in a particular closet or pantry, and then determine the best type of storage containers that would work best in this place. Get creative so that you can find the best way to organize your stuff and make it look great at the same time with different textures, patterns and colors.

Mount Your Televisions

If you have an entertainment center, you may be surprised at how much floor space you can free by getting rid of this enormous piece of furniture. The solution is as simple as mounting your TV on your wall.

Use Corners

People often feel they should decorate by placing furniture in the center of a room, but this often makes a place look more cluttered than it has to. Utilizing all of your corners in your home can create much more space. Use corner shelving, and don’t be afraid to position a sofa, table or another piece of furniture or a plant in a corner if it fits nicely.

Install Floating Shelves

Substituting a table or nightstand with a floating shelf can free up valuable floor space. One of these shelves can still provide the tablespace you need for the basics.

Anytime is a good time to begin „spring cleaning“ and organizing, especially when there is limited space. Take time as you declutter to develop creative organization ideas for your entire home. You are on your way to less stress.
