Waiting For Smith – Life She Don’t Lie

Read our exclusive interview here:)

Life She Don’t Lie is about those days that just feel too heavy, where all you want to do is hide from the world. It’s a strange paradox that the best cure for that is to do exactly the opposite of what you feel and and open your heart to it.

Open the curtains, get into the world, talk about it, or even help someone else.

Inspired by listening to the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Adele. I wanted to write a piano song that could stand on its own, without other instrumentation. To really focus on that feeling of what’s it’s like where you don’t think you can continue.

I sat down, and those first chords, lyrics, and melody seemed to arrive as it had already been there. It gave me such a great sense of release when I played it. That I hoped it would do the same for others when listening.

Composing the strings with Dane Etteridge (who produced the record) was such a big moment. The strings arrived at the end of the track, like this great calvary of catharsis. They feel to me as if they’re saying „However bad this day is man, there will be a new one tomorrow, so hold on“… They have a healing quality to them.

Like the feeling of release, you can get after crying.
