Sweet Tempest – „Modern Justice“ + Exclusive Interview

Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hello, and thank you too! We’re Julian and Luna, Producer and Singer of Sweet Tempest, in that specific order!

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Like everyone else, we’ve been in hibernation for a while now but not anymore! We’ve recently released 2 singles , ‘Party In Panama’ and ‘Modern Justice’ and yes they’re delightful. Along with the third song in that trilogy and a whole heap new singles on the way, they’re leading up to our album ‘Going Down Dancing’. We’ve been in quarantine, not in ’no-work-zone.’ We’re hoping for a tour too but let’s see what our virus friends have to say about that. However, we’re playing our first gig for ages in Istanbul on Sunday along with the fabulous Turkish band ‘The Away Days’ and we’re excited and soiling our pants at the same time. The venue is banger and the last time we played it was in front of a bunch of high people in a cute little shop in Mitte.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

One: We often end up doing things we shouldn’t.

Two: We like to work from home because it creates the mood.

Three: Luna is never on time.

Four: So Julian is never on time.

Five: We never write songs that don’t mean anything to us.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

We can’t confirm that it’s an actual fashion style but we feel very connected to the walk of shame.

What’s your songwriting process?

We like a cozy atmosphere. We close the curtains, set some mood lighting, pour ourselves whiskey and then beat that horse until it’s dead or running like hell.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Probably that it’s gone from record companies fucking us musicians to them getting fucked by the streaming services so they just fuck us even harder. Could everyone please stop fucking us, for just one second?

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

We used to go for very intimately emotional and fairy-tale like songs (and we’re certainly not done with that) but for our three new singles that are a trilogy we’ve taken a harder, more cynical tone and have wanted to comment on the frankly sordid state of the world. We realised that we were two pretty damn privileged people observing and that writing songs about the troubles of others could be interpreted as tasteless. So we went for tasteless. And you can dance to it too.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

We suppose the question would be: “Julian and Luna, why is everyone in Denmark either heartbroken or pregnant?” To which we would answer be “Ask the boomers, they’re the ones who got us here.”
