st.james – ‘AQUARIUS’ + Exclusive Interview

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release Aquarius to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

A cocktail of course! But like a dirty one. Nothing fruity or too sweet.

Please give us an update about – the new single Aquarius, any video or shows in the works?

I tossed up shooting a video for Aquarius and ultimately ran out of time before its release. But it is something I likely will still do! At the moment I’m working on a bunch of tracks I will be hopefully releasing soon and then will create a show around them and perform it live for sure!

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which harmless theory do you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I saw a Tiktok about aliens observing Earth and deciding not to come here because of how primitive and silly we are. It was so cute and I kind of hope that it’s really happening in space.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Pretty much anything Oscar de la Renta. It’s bright, with lots of colours and patterns. Bold but classy.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Aquarius is just a little observation about what’s going on around us right now. I wrote it about how things are kind of bleak but it’s written from a hopeful frame of mind. My new stuff is simpler, I’m writing about love. I am so excited to share the new music with you!

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’m really flexible. I can do the splits. I learned German as a subject in primary school and even though it was so long ago I can still remember so many random things. I can tell you what the weather is doing or ask you for a gummy bear in German!  Oh! And I can pick almost anything up from the ground with my toes.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I always wanted to write like Bob Dylan. I used to write these huge, lengthy, word-salad songs.

I’ve learned to compress them but it’s something that always comes up.

I want to be known for writing catchy songs with great hooks and meaningful lyrics.

My favourite thing is performing on a stage. If you like my music you’ll LOVE seeing me live.

I’m a huge fan of vocal harmonies. Even if it ends up being buried or lost in the mix, I always insist on laying harmonies in almost every section of every song.

I am a night owl and 90% of my songwriting happens after 10pm

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

My Mum taught me French songs and church hymns when I was really little and she said my face would light up whenever there was music around. My Dad introduced me to rock n’ roll and then when I discovered Billboard top 40 I was OBSESSED. I learned piano at 4 and sang all through school but it wasn’t until I left school I started writing. It was a challenge for me because I really struggle to stay interested in anything I’m not good at. It took a while for me to get good enough to be confident showing my work to anyone. I’m so grateful I persevered.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Question is – do you have any gaps in knowledge? Something  that is common knowledge and you should know, but don’t. This is probably a question I want someone to ask so I can answer it as more of a confession than anything.  I still don’t actually know what a tapestry is, despite reading about it in many books. I refuse to look it up because it’s become a whole thing now and I just don’t want to know.
