Rude Rainbow is the brainchild behind two Sydney fiancé’s, Mitch Petropoulos and Kieran Kartun.
“The idea for the brand developed quite organically out of our own wants and needs for a brand” says lead designer, Kieran.
“Every time we were planning for Mardi Gras (Pride), a big party, or just looking forward to a holiday overseas , we’d shop around looking for fun party wear and cool accessories. After finding very few brands locally we’d eventually end up having to order stuff from overseas with prints and quality that was almost always very underwhelming.”
Working within the architectural design and fashion/sales/tech industries, the boys have used their skills in design and retail to imagine a great Australian based brand that emphasises quality materials and considered design, “but doesn’t shy away from being a tad ‘extra’ and is sure to turn heads”.
The idea was simple. Fun, colourful, and just a little rude.
“We wanted to create a brand that would essentially end up being a place where anyone could come to find everything from party accessories to swimwear at any time of the year with an ever-changing range. We also didn’t want to play it safe. We wanted the designs to be fun and ‘Poppy’, knowing that Aussie boys aren’t shy of a good print. We felt there were plenty of swimwear brands but none that were willing to fully embrace the gay market and so we designed other items gay boys wanted such as matching bandana prints, caps, bags, fans and eyewear.”
The products are designed by the boys in Sydney, Australia, based on a varied range of prints and colours “to ensure our customers really stand out in a crowd.”
This season’s swimwear is all about natural geometries. “Forms in nature have evolved to perfection over millions of years and we have taken inspiration from the natural world to create geometric prints that pop whilst staying true to our design ethos of bright, eye catching colours.”
