City Edition tells hyperlocal stories that connect the court, community, and culture. This Edition allows the team to tells a story that’s unique to their city through boundary-pushing designs. City Edition uniforms can be any color to allow for authentic connections to be drawn between fans, their local culture, and their NBA Team.

The Atlanta Hawks new City Edition uniform is part of the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition Moments Mixtape theme. In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, the on-court collection was designed to showcase the iconic moments of each franchise. The legacy yellow colored jersey and short sets a vibrant tone for the Hawk’s young dynamic team to carry the mantle of the greats that built the franchise. The torch red elements on this uniform symbolize the Atlanta Hawks’ red-hot spirit and fiery passion for the game. The black details represent the team’s bold and relentless pursuit of a championship, fueled by the support of their unwavering fans and the love of the city that will never die.

Behind The Design:

  • 1968: Jersey Number Style harkens back to the Hawks‘ inaugural season in Atlanta. The asymmetrical black, yellow and red tape configuration on the shorts represent the melding of the leg detail from the 1968 season
  • 1970: Jersey Wordmark (Atlanta) on the chest invokes the spirit of Pistol Pete
  • 1985: The 2 color Infinity Black and Torch Red at the Jersey Neck
  • 1982-92:  The vertical “Hawks” wordmark on the left side of the short
  • 1998: Jersey Graphic of Hawk clutching the basketball with his wings spread across the jersey torso. Worn by greats like Dikembe Mutombo and Steve Smith

The Charlotte Hornets new City Edition uniform is part of the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition Moments Mixtape theme. In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, this on-court collection was designed to showcase the iconic moments of each franchise. This uniform juxtaposes elements from previous uniforms, as well as non-uniform design cues, to tell a holistic story of the evolution of the team and the brand from the inaugural season of 1988-89, through the return of the Hornets to Charlotte in 2014, to the present day.

Behind The Design:

  • The “Charlotte” script wordmark has never been used before on a jersey and calls back to the popular design of pennants from 1988.
  • The multicolored pinstripes come from the original Hornets uniforms worn from 1988-1997.
  • The uniform numbers on the front and back of the jersey use the current Hornets font, while the player name on the back appears in the classic Hornets font.
  • The number on the front of the jersey is right justified, reminiscent of the uniforms worn by the Bobcats from 2004-2009 and 2012-2014.
  • The jersey includes the anthem “EST. 1988” in the classic Hornets font above the jocktag. The jersey and shorts both feature a vertically gradated cell pattern as a tribute to the court design from the old Charlotte Coliseum.

The Cleveland Cavaliers new City Edition uniform is part of the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition Moments Mixtape theme. In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, this on-court collection was designed to showcase the iconic moments of each franchise. This uniform pays homage to unique moments in Cavaliers history, such as the origination of the franchise, classic playoff moments, and the 2016 NBA Championship.

Behind The Design:

  • The Miracle of Richfield, 1976 – The Miracle of Richfield is proudly represented on the City Edition jersey through the Cavaliers Swordman, the original team logo, which is featured as the primary jersey crest, and through the the popular wine, gold and white blocked trim that personified this historic early-era uniform.
  • Cavs Beat Celtics in 1992 Playoffs – The era is commemorated by the popular CAVS logo on the waistband that was once featured as the main jersey crest during this memorable season.
  • Cavs Move to Downtown Cleveland, 1994 – The move downtown is showcased on the City Edition uniform through designs in the short flaps that highlight the Coliseum logo and a Cleveland city skyline, drawing the connection between a proud past and dynamic future. The City Edition uniform also features the popular number design on the front and back of the uniforms that were part of the brand update and the new look Cavaliers that captured the hearts of an enthusiastic fanbase.
  • Cavaliers First NBA Finals Appearance, 2007 – This landmark ECF Championship and appearance in the NBA Finals is commemorated on the City Edition uniform through the return of the shimmer material on the side of the shorts that was a key design element from the uniforms worn during the first Finals run.
  • Cavaliers 2016 NBA Championship, Parade & Celebration – The historic victory is commemorated on the City Edition jersey with a design detail above the Nike jocktag, showcasing images of diamonds as they appear on the Cavaliers Championship ring. Three white diamonds depict the Golden State Warriors wins in the series and four “wine-colored” garnets represent the Cavaliers victories.

The New Orleans Pelicans new City Edition uniform is part of the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition Moments Mixtape theme. In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, this on-court collection was designed to showcase the iconic moments of each franchise.

Behind The Design:

  • With the Pelicans being the youngest franchise in the league, this sleek uniform rooted in simplicity represents the pure history of the Pelicans with a focus on moving the franchise forward.
  • The “NOLA” read on the front of the jersey is a beloved nickname for the city.
  • The wordmark is representative of a Pelican flight formation, showing other teams in the league that the Pelicans are ready to take flight.
  • The Won’t Bow Down on the jersey anthem and WBD in the short vent show that the team is relentless in their pursuit of success.

The Chicago Bulls new City Edition uniform is part of the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition Moments Mixtape theme. In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, this on-court collection was designed to showcase the iconic moments of each franchise. Featuring a nod to the franchise’s inception in 1966, the uniform also highlights design elements that are uniquely Bulls including the Chicago script and three-color trim. This uniform also commemorates the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, with the diamond League logo represented.

The LA Clippers new City Edition uniform is part of the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition Moments Mixtape theme. In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, this on-court collection was designed to showcase the iconic moments of each franchise. This uniform pays homage to milestones in Clippers history, including the start of the franchise as the Buffalo Braves in 1970, the team’s move to San Diego to become the Clippers in 1978, the move to Los Angeles in 1984, and Steve Ballmer’s purchase of the team in 2014, ushering in the new era of optimism and dedication to building a bright future for the Clippers.

  • Buffalo Braves logo on the belt buckle celebrating the team’s launch in 1970
  • Pacific blue colorway, a homage to the Clippers’ move from Buffalo to San Diego in 1978
  • Iconic Clippers script wordmark from the 2014-15 season

The Brooklyn Nets new City Edition uniform is part of the 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition Moments Mixtape theme. In celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary, this on-court collection was designed to showcase the iconic moments of each franchise.  From the stars and stripes design that Dr. J made iconic, to the redesigned 1990s NETS jersey wordmark, to the style of the consecutive NBA Finals teams in 2002 and 2003, and the influence of the distinctly styled herringbone court on the team’s new uniforms in 2012, this new design pays homage to the totality of Nets uniform history.
