MIDO Ocean Star GMT Special Edition with interchangeable strap

MIDO is celebrating the 80th anniversary of its distinctive, sporty Ocean Star collection. For this occasion, the Swiss watch manufacturer, which has mastered the art of constantly reinventing itself, presents an irresistible special edition with the practical GMT function and numerous vintage elements. In nautical colors, of course, but also in silver and with new indices in the shape of… shark teeth! With two interchangeable bracelets for a sporty and an urban-elegant look, no matter what time zone the wearer is in.

The Ocean Star was introduced in 1944 and has since accompanied the greatest challenges of seafaring with unshakable reliability. Even back then, MIDO was a pioneer in terms of waterproofing; after all, the brand had already invented the Aquadura system in the 1930s. To mark the 80th anniversary of this extraordinary collection, the brand is reviving the spirit of the models of the time with an Ocean Star with GMT function. Its features: a unique navy blue and silver dial with new shark-tooth-shaped indices. Various elements give the watch a wonderful vintage charm: sapphire crystal in a “glass box” style, a diameter of 40.5 mm that recalls the modest dimensions of the time, and a multi-link bracelet in satin and polished stainless steel. MIDO combines this nostalgic and contemporary look with ultra-modern materials: stainless steel, Super-LumiNova®, aluminum ring on the bidirectional rotating bezel. The choice for excellence is of course also reflected in the water resistance up to 200 meters (20 bar / 660 ft), which is symbolized by an engraved starfish on the case back. Coupled with an anti-magnetic NivachronTM balance spring, the automatic movement, Caliber 80 with a power reserve of up to 80 hours, offers unshakable mechanical performance perfect for cruising the oceans.

The time here and elsewhere

The perfectly readable Ocean Star GMT displays two time zones – for everyone who likes to travel across land and sea. Diamond-cut hands show the hours and minutes, the red-lacquered hand shows the time in the second time zone on the flange. Thanks to white Super-LumiNova® on the hands and indices, explorers can read the time even in the dark. The Ocean Star GMT’s navy blue dial harmonizes with the blue of the aluminum ring on the polished, fluted bezel. Silver accents on the flange, the bezel markings, and around the even hour indices, whose novel shape is reminiscent of a shark’s teeth, add shine to the nautical face. And finally, another very practical piece of information appears in a window at 3 o’clock: the date. This adventurer of the seas is protected by a curved sapphire crystal that is reminiscent of the earlier Plexiglass.

The Ocean Star GMT case is made of durable stainless steel and features subtle contrasts between polished and satin-finished surfaces. MIDO completes this watch with two easily interchangeable straps: a multi-link bracelet made of satin-finished and polished stainless steel and a navy blue Nato strap with a gray stripe in the middle. The special edition is packed in an exclusive case.

A robust and reliable instrument

The Ocean Star GMT is just right for globetrotters who always need to be able to rely on their watch. Its screw-down crown and screw-down caseback further improve its durability. Its mechanical automatic movement, the ultra-reliable and unshakable Caliber 80 thanks to the high-tech spiral spring made of anti-magnetic NivachronTM and the exceptional power reserve of up to 80 hours, beats in time. MIDO has engraved the starfish on the caseback, the emblem of this now 80-year-old collection.

No swimming ban for this spirited special edition! The Ocean Star GMT celebrates the 80th anniversary of a collection with exceptional history and performance.
