1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi, I’m Mia, I’m a 13 year old Indie pop artist from Toronto. I’ve been singing since I was about 9 years old, and I’ve been writing since I was 12. This past year I’ve worked on my original music, and so far I’ve released 4 songs. When I was younger, I used to record covers in the studio, which was a lot of  fun. When I started recording my own songs, I had more confidence to explore my own music style and sound.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I recently released my 4th single “Caught”, and the music video is coming out soon. I’ll be releasing another single in the beginning of the new year, which I’m so excited about, so stay tuned!

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

– I play piano and guitar.

– my music is sad and moody.

– I’ve been singing since I was 9.

– Every one of my songs is close to my heart because it’s about a personal experience I’ve had.

– I’m very tall.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I’d describe my music as Indie or alt Pop.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My songs tend to be about experiences that hurt me emotionally. In a general sense they’re about my every day frustrations, anxiety, some are about my confidence and self image. My first song release “Hide and Seek” was about me starting a new school a few years ago, I had no friends and I used to hide in the bathroom on my breaks, wishing to be found but no one ever did. I never told my parents because I didn’t want them to worry. It was a very lonely time in my life, but I lived through it. My message would be that if you want something positive to happen, you need to put yourself out there, have some confidence, you’ll find your way eventually. Also, you’re not alone, there are always other people that feel like you do and there are people that care about you, who want you to be happy.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I have a pretty good memory, I remember roads and places I’ve been to, so I love looking at maps and learning where places are on the map. I know it may sound weird but every time I’m bored I look at a map and I try to remember street names and cities, it’s fun, and who knows, maybe I’ll visit those places one day..

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Before I get on stage, I always feel anxious and nervous, I’m always worried something bad might happen, like a voice crack or mess up, but then when I actually go on stage and perform, all my fears disappear. I just forget it all and I end up with this amazing feeling, that makes me excited to go on stage again.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

Singing comes naturally but you also need a good team to work with. I learned all the proper singing techniques from my vocal coach, Marla Joy. She’s really amazing. It’s  honestly not just about having a good voice, it’s also about emotion and dynamics and she teaches me everything I need to learn to be the best that I can be. My co-writers/ producers Matt Kahane and Quin Kiu are also an important part of my growth as an artist, they help me with the writing process and really helped me find my musical style.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

If you could learn to sing in a different language, which would it be?

I’d love to learn to sing in Spanish. I enjoy listening to latin music, I love the language and the rhythm, my favourite artist to listen to is Maluma.
