Merlin – „Hola, Qué Tal“ + Exclusive Interview

1 Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

A Negroni with Prosecco in it!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My latest single „Hola, Qué Tal“ was just released on Kontor Records. After a few years of producing music it feels like I’ve finally found my musical identity and I think you can hear that in my new single. This year there will be some more singles and every now and then appearances on Free Tv on Deluxe Music. I can’t and don’t want to anticipate too much, but I’m looking forward to every single release and show.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

Since my birthday is on december 24th, I wouldn’t mind meeting Santa and his wife at the North Pole.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Usually I like to wear oversized clothes. Often I wear basic clothes with individual striking clothing parts such as a jacket, sunglasses or shoes that stand out. In addition my music is heard a lot when partying so WRSTBHVR would be a good brand to describe my music.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

For me it is important that my music translates in the best case between different age groups and cultures. That’s why I like to use different languages like Spanish, Punjabi or English on my house/dance beats. Also the fun and the good mood is in the foreground, that’s why I hope that exciting memories have been and will continue to be created in connection with my music. So: A little party never killed nobody!

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

First no, unfortunately, I can not do magic.

I used to be pretty good at playing football but wouldn’t necessarily call it a talent.

I am absolutely terrific at Mario Kart.

7. Name 4 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I love to combine organic elements like flutes with thoroughly synthetic electronic sounds.

My real name is Merlin, so choosing an artist name was not difficult.

When it comes to bass in my productions it has to be loud and to absolutely go down.

I like to test different genres and take the best parts from the different directions and combine them in my music.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

The main part I have taught myself autodidactically with YouTube videos and by trial and error. However, I had guitar lessons for years in early childhood. At the age of 17 I finally started to teach myself how to play the piano and produce music. But all in all trial and error describes my learning process best I guess.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Q: What does the word ‘hit’ mean to you?

A: Nowadays everything is measured and evaluated in numbers. If a track doesn’t perform good as fast as hoped or expected, it’s quickly called a flop. But for me, there is so much more to the evaluation of a song. The experiences and gains that arise during the creation process of a song are in my opinion priceless. Sure, you can say that a hit is a hit only from many sales but for me this word is much more diverse.
