James Laurent – „Metamorphosis“ + Exclusive Interview

Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

It’s a pleasure you guys asked me to do this! For those new to me, I’m James Laurent, a Midwest Emo & Punk artist and LA based audio engineer.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Yes! So I just released my very first music video “Metamorphosis” and as of the time of my writing this it is sitting at 235,000 youtube views in just three weeks! I have a new single with hip hop artist Machai in the pipeline and a new EP “PUNKSTAR” coming out in the next few months!

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  • I write, record, mix, and master every single song I put out!
  • I don’t like letting genres define me, At the base of everything I make it is still emo or punk but I greatly enjoy making pop or rap songs on top of alternative rock
  • My music and lyricism greatly reflect the current events happening in my personal life
  • I am fully independent from the inception of my career all the way  to the production and marketing of my latest video!
  • I am the CEO of Wavy Clique Entertainment which is the artist development company I have two artists signed to. I manage and mentor them as well as mix, master, and distribute their music.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I have a very unique style mix of streetwear with classic punk fashion with a color palette of base black & white with accents of red.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

A lot of my songs stem from my life experiences in love, drug abuse, & self introspection on the things I have done in order to make even the smallest advancements in my career. I truly have risked so much to be where I am today.

Besides music, do you have any special talents?

It is a super nerdy talent, but yes, I am very good at card tricks and close up magic. All of my long term relationships started through magic one way or another. When I was in highschool I would walk around the cafeteria at lunch and do magic tricks for all the other kids.

Being on stage feels like….!

Heaven, pure adrenaline filled blissed.

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

Haha I wish I knew, I was kicked out of band and orchestra as a kid because I simply was just not musically talented. It was in high school when I started engineering that I slowly started figuring things out and after five years of engineering and constant practice I feel comfortable with my voice and sound.

If you could go back in time and talk to yourself, what would you say?

Nothing, I wouldn’t want to change anything in my life. I feel as though I went through all my struggles and pain for a reason and without them I wouldn’t be as mature and in the place I am in today. Maybe I would be better off, maybe not, but I like my life and wouldn’t want it any differently.
