I Want Poetry – „SOLACE + LIGHT“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi, we’re I WANT POETRY, a dream pop/indietronica duo from Dresden, Germany.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Our new album SOLACE + LIGHT is out May 26th, and we’re super excited to share it with the world. When we set out to write it two years ago, it was a pretty introspective experience – like we had a lot of existential questions on our mind and the songs came to us as if to provide answers. What are we made of? When we part ways, what do we leave behind, what do we take with us? We find that there’s a light inside of all of us, and this is what gives us hope and strength. It’s thoughtful but it’s also a very positive album. Something to put on when you’re starting a new day – or driving off into the sunset. 🙂

We’re extremely happy with the way it turned out, there’s a whole world that grew around it and so many amazing people who helped us create it. There’s a video to almost every track (check it out here https://youtube.com/iwantpoetry).

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

ONE – We are constantly creating. Even if we weren’t a band, if we weren’t touring or recording – we’d always be writing songs.

TWO – We love making music videos.

THREE – Our new album SOLACE + LIGHT is out on all streaming services, but you can also get it in a beautiful transparent yellow vinyl. So you can actually let the light shine through! 😉

FOUR – We love experimenting with sounds from unusual sources and building large and complex soundscapes …

FIVE – … but the most important thing to us is always that the music carries the raw emotion of the song as we wrote it.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

We’re actually inspired by all manners of art and creativeness… fashion, dance, architecture, film… you name it. We totally love bringing it all together. For instance, check out our newest music video “LIGHT”. It was filmed in a one-of-a-kind location in Spain, a building like a surreal, pastel-toned daydream, and we just floated through the motions.

5. What’s your songwriting process?

We have a very intuitive approach to making music. From the first melody, riff or chord progression we know what it’s about. What the song wants to tell us – it forms vivid images in our minds. Some songs are there in an instant, others take their time to develop. Like “People at Parties”, for example – this one has been with us for years, but only now it felt like the right album for the track.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

The music industry is much more varied than it may appear at first glance, and we think this is becoming more visible to many people. There’s a lot of support for indie artists like ourselves, and we are so grateful for every gesture. And there’s so much creative genius out there by bands, artists, producers who most of the world have never heard of. But this is where it happens: Where truly new ideas emerge. Right off the top of our head we could name you ten super inspiring bedroom producers, garage bands, or street musicians. And isn’t that wonderful!

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Right now, we’re at a point in our lives where many things are still beginning, but we’re also becoming more aware of the finiteness of existence. SOLACE + LIGHT is heavily influenced by this feeling and the need to make sense of it all. When we part ways, what do we leave behind, what do we take with us? Where do we find solace and the strength to go on? It’s as much nostalgic as it is exploration of hopes and dreams. Take “Souvenirs” for instance – this is one of the first songs we recorded for the album, and it has a powerful essence: “we are the souvenirs”. It’s often the immaterial or overlooked things that endure: having listened, having found the right words at the right time. Having been there for one another or inspiring each other.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
