Evil Tongues – „Energy For This“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Mike: A high shelf Gin and tonic with lime or a Red Bull (to give you some energy).

Jennifer: I’d have to agree with Mike on the high shelf Gin and tonic. I could regularly be found with one in my hand while working on this song.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

„Energy For This“ is our second single, our first release „Fine“ dropped back in January of this year. No dates set in stone just yet, but keep an eye on our socials for all future updates about new music, videos, merch and tour dates. We both can’t wait to get out on the road and share our music with everyone in person.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

We’re an 80s inspired Alternative/Pop duo

We used authentic vintage analog synthesizers from the 60s-80s to create our music

Our band was formed in Toronto Ontario in 2017, and relocated to Vancouver, BC in 2021

On top of being musicians, we both work full-time within the music industry

We are both obsessed with local independent coffee roasters, and look forward to everyone’s recommendations once we’re on tour

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Mike: Alternative, crimped hair, vans footwear.

Jennifer: Think 1980’s Madonna meets The Cure. I’m also a huge fan of KVD make-up, I think their brand meshes really well with our music.

5. What’s your songwriting process?

Mike: We both come up with ideas or themes we want to convey in our music. I’ll write a loose musical song structure, Jen will write the lyrics and vocal ideas and then we come together to work on the song until we’re both happy with it.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Mike: Fairer streaming royalties for Artists on all platforms worldwide.

Jennifer: Better work life balance. I think this industry is really one that bleeds into your personal life whether you’re an artist or promoter. So many of us get into the music industry because we eat, sleep and breathe it, which makes it hard to set boundaries for ourselves. But we shouldn’t feel like we have to be killing ourselves working 24/7 just to have a successful career in it.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Jennifer: Energy For this, captures where I was at mental in the months leading up to the demise of my last serious relationship. I had relocated for my partner, and over the course of the year I was there, nothing I could do or say could convince him that I wanted to make our life together there work. He always felt like I was living with one foot out the door. Eventually he started treating me like I was gone months before I had even decided to leave. I turned into a shell of myself, dealing with isolation, depression, anxiety and insomnia. During one argument in particular I was told he „didn’t have energy to deal with me“ which is where the song title and chorus comes from. Eventually he came to me wanting to make things work, but by then, I didn’t have energy for him. In short this song is about giving the wrong person the power to destroy you, then realizing in the end you deserved better all along.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Mike: Would we want to be able to live and/or perform inside a TRON-like world?

One hundred percent yes.

Jennifer: I don’t know how this would come up in a question, but I’m not sure anyone really understands my obsession with roller coasters and amusement parks. As a kid my family would go on road trips where we would just drive around the States going to different theme parks. I hope someone interviews me one day at a theme park, just spending the day going on the craziest rides and answering questions!
