BRACENET x LA Lakers

In a remarkable collaboration, the sustainable Hamburg social impact startup BRACENET and the world-famous basketball team LA Lakers have joined forces to send a decisive signal against the flood of plastic in the world’s oceans.

It’s a frightening fact: One of the five large plastic whirlpools in the world’s oceans, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, covers an area 4.5 times the size of Germany. But what’s even more shocking is that almost half of this gigantic garbage patch is made up of ghost nets – fishing nets that have been lost or intentionally dumped in the sea. Every year, an additional 1 million tons of these deadly traps enter the oceans, threatening not only marine life but also fragile ecosystems. These ghost nets can float in the sea for up to 600 to 800 years until they finally decompose into microplastics.

BRACENET has therefore made it its mission, together with the renowned marine conservation organizations Healthy Seas and Ghost Diving, to recover these dangerous ghost nets from the oceans and transform them into unique accessories. In addition, old fishing nets are taken directly from the fisheries and also put to sustainable use.

The LA Lakers, one of the most successful and well-known basketball teams in the world, are not only NBA record champions on the court, but also pioneers in the area of sustainability off the field. The association has set itself ambitious environmental goals and is actively involved in environmental protection.

This impressive partnership between BRACENET and the LA Lakers results in the spread of the clear message: „Save the Seas. Wear a Net.“ The collection, manufactured together in Hamburg, currently includes two unique bracelets and a key ring in the LA Lakers‘ original, characteristic colors and are not colored. Each piece is unique and consists of old, disused fishing nets that once posed a deadly threat to the seas. An LA Lakers logo on the clasp or a silver LA Lakers pendant are special highlights of the bracelets. All products are lovingly upcycled and fairly handcrafted in Hamburg, are waterproof, rust-proof and cost between 33 and 38 euros.

With this innovative collaboration, the LA Lakers and BRACENET are making a significant statement about protecting our oceans and making it clear that sustainability and environmental protection should be an integral part of a responsible global community. By purchasing these unique pieces of jewelry, people around the world can actively contribute to saving the oceans and at the same time make a statement for sustainability and environmental protection.
