BELSTAFF AUTUMN/WINTER 2022 COLLECTION: TOPOGRAPHICA

For the AW22 season, Belstaff presents a functional, innovative collection of menswear and womenswear designed to take you wherever you want to go. Across oceans, up mountains, down roads – or just on a heroic trip to the
pub. The brand has a rich history of moving people forwards and has been dressing those that venture beyond for decades. Belstaff designed protective suits for race-car drivers in the 1920s, windproof smocks for the Royal Navy in the 1960s and insulating clothing for world-beating mountaineers in the 1970s. One thing is at the heart of all of these endeavours: An Independent Spirit.

The Autumn/Winter 2022 collection, Topographica, integrates past and present to champion this spirit and indicate a new direction of travel. Shades of bright Signal Orange, Radiant Green and Horizon Blue act as wayfinders across the collection, which champions naval references and fabric innovation in new and exciting ways. Performance merino and jersey combine with nylon. Shearling takes on new forms in hybrid outerwear that mix texture for high impact. Moisture-wicking and water-resistant fabrications give renewed purpose to technical trousers and overshirts.

“These days, I find myself thinking more about how a genuine, consistent and reliable brand such as Belstaff can evolve and develop. For the Autumn/Winter 2022 collection, we looked back in order to move forwards, referencing legacy designs to create products that people can relate to, while cultivating a lasting relationship. Attracting a fresh audience requires a bolder, more innovative approach. Great styles, strong colours and technical pieces are only part of the equation. The other key part is having the confidence to mix those things back in with our core product, including waxed cotton, leather and shearling outerwear, to create a new way of dressing that is both unexpected and a natural continuation of the Belstaff brand.”

Sean Lehnhart-Moore, Creative Director.

Belstaff’s new proprietary fabric, Wave Dye, pays a modern tribute to a key source of inspiration: the ocean. The Wave Dye Nylon is made using 100% recycled materials and a unique hand-dying process to create a distinctive mottled two-tone effect that makes each garment unique. The finish can also be found across jersey styles, knitwear and accessories. The ocean references continue in a core inspiration for the season: a Royal Navy Windproof Smock commissioned for the British Military in the 1970s. Design motifs from this archive style are reimagined through distinctive curved pockets, snaps, trims and stitching across outerwear and apparel.

In line with the brand’s new performance-driven direction, Autumn/Winter 2022 will see a continuation of Belstaff’s collaboration with material innovators Gore-Tex in down-filled coats and jackets designed to handle the harshest conditions. Constructed from a recycled 2-layer Gore-Tex fabric with taped seams, these peak performance layers are fully waterproof, windproof, durable and insulating. Elsewhere, our core down collection is responsibly sourced and reimagined for the season in padded, water-resistant leather and a densely woven, high-shine recycled nylon, seen across key outerwear styles.

Topographica marks a new chapter of innovation for Belstaff. A plan to move forward.
