WaTa’s new album „Inner City Blues“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few
words!

Hey guys, I am WaTa, music producer and songwriter from
Budapest/Hungary. I make melodic but groovy electronic music that’s
suitable to dance and to chill to. Jazzy vibes, wonky drums and organic
electronic elements mixed with different genres is my secret recipe.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates,
new videos?!

My new EP ‘Inner City Blues’ just came out – a 4 track release with
jazzy, funky vibes about the love of the busy big-city life. Highly
recommended to everyone with a metropolitan lifestyle! We also recorded a
live music video for the lead single ’ChitChat’ where you can see me
singing, messing around on percussions and synths – accompanied by an
incredibly talented flutist – Fanni Zahár.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I started from classical music at the age of 6 studying classical piano
and percussion
I went through a lot of transitions: I started making hip-hop beats
while studying classical music, but I was also into UK electronic styles
like dubstep and UK garage. I even make radio ready pop-music from time
to time
I lived in London for 5 years studying music and working the most
different jobs from a warehouse assistant to sandwichman and barista,
making a living from music came a lot later
I used to sing in the Hungarian Opera house when I was little and I only
just started to use my voice again in my music
I’m also a music producer in my everyday life, I write music for films
and TV ads, I even had an instrumental in the US TV show Shameless.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I think anything to do with the word ‘urban’ would fit my music
perfectly. I love the energy and the buzz of the city and it shows in my
productions. I’d say elegant streetwear is something that my sound could
work with.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

‘Inner City Blues’ was inspired by the pandemic period and all the weird
things it brought onto us: the lack off talks with friends (‘ChitChat’),
managing relationships online (‘Virtual’) and crazy days where you can’t
even make a difference between weekdays and weekends (‘Sunday’). The
message of the EP is probably just a reminder for us to appreciate the
little things in our everydays – you never know how much you are going
to miss a good chit chat.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I used to be really good at in-line skating (or rollerblading). I’m
hoping to see a revival of that sport soon!

7. Being on stage feels like….!

It feels like a birthday party or some kind of celebration, friends
everywhere, everyone’s smiling and I get to be in charge of the music
for everyone to enjoy. There’s also booze.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I started very early (age 6) as a classical pianist and went through all
the necessary steps and subjects like solfeggio, music theory,
orchestral practice, etc. That was a good starting point but everything
else that I use in my music I learned myself by trial and error. I think
the courage to experiment with music brings out the most exciting ideas
and unveils the most unique artists.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview
before?! + Answer pls

I see a lot of arguments about how technology makes it super easy to
make music nowadays and how anyone without any musical knowledge can
make music now. My point in this topic is sure, technology made a lot of
things possible and easier for everyone. But also our expectations are
much higher in that sense as we appreciate hand-made and well crafted
things a lot more – this is as true in music as in any other form of art
and even everyday items.
