Who’s excited about college? We all are!

Several things lie ahead when you enter college. You find new friends, hobbies, sports, or interests. But that’s not all the new things; doing laundry by yourself must also be new for you. University life is all about exploring the world and yourself. You have to do things on your own. Thus, you need to know these life hacks beforehand to make university life more manageable.

So, how should a college frosh do laundry?

You might be culture shocked as a college laundry room is quite different from your home washer and dryer. Also, some college dorms don’t have a shared laundry room. So, you have to bring your laundry to the nearest NYC laundromat.

Here are some tips for doing laundry to establish your laundry routine.

Choose the Best Laundry Hours

You have to choose the best hours to do your laundry strategically. If you are thinking about doing it during the weekends or nights, these times are the busiest. You can go to the laundromat on weekday afternoons, mornings, or during big events at the university.

Do not go when the time you have no clean underwear!

Prepare and Sort Your Laundry Before You Go

Sort your laundry at your dorm. It would be awkward to rummage through dirty clothes at the laundry shop or the communal laundry space. Take time to sort them by color, fabric, or dirtiest. Other than that, check the wash label on the shirt to give you a guideline on how to wash the shirt safely and efficiently.

Be Cautious at the Laundromat

There may be instances that your items can be mixed up in a communal laundry room. Although it is good not to leave your things, putting a label on them might be the best thing to do.

Moreover, you should check what’s inside the machine before you throw your clothes inside. The machine might have a detergent residue that could ruin your clothes permanently. If you find the washer or dryer is messy, call the staff’s attention to manage it.

Keep Track of the Time

During your first laundry, time how long it takes for the washer and dryer to complete one load. It helps you determine how long each load is completed, and you can leave your clothes while you set your alarm. If the laundromat has techy washers, their app will alert you when the cycle is done.

Fold Clothes Before Going Back

After your clothes come out of the dryer, fold them to avoid wrinkles. You can properly fold them once you are back in your dorm.

Ah! Do not forget to bring a laundry bag to cover your basket or hamper back to your dorm. You wouldn’t want your freshly laundered clothes to get dirty again.

Laundry Done!

Let’s celebrate! You have completed your first load of laundry. Now, you will not waste any hours or quarters on laundry. Impress your mom with the nicely folded clothes that you did yourself.
