Tsunamiz – „Magickal Seeds“ – Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi, thank you so much for having me! My name is Bruno Sobral and Tsunamiz is my stage name. I’m an independent music artist and producer. I compose and record my albums on my own (D.I.Y. style) and I am influenced by many different musical genres ranging from rock to electronic music and hip-hop.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

„Magickal Seeds“ just came out and it’s the first single of my new upcoming album. „Looney Tunez“, is my fifth studio album, and it’s coming out this March 20th. I’ve already filmed a video for the second single, which will probably be released near the end of February.

I love all the songs in the new record and if I could I would make a video for each one but that’s just too expensive for me.

As for tour dates, I’m currently booking, and yes, I also book my own shows. It’s a lot of work but it’s been working out fine so far.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

1- I have total creative control; musically I do what I want when I want it;

2- I believe in musical freedom, music beyond genres; loving all good music in every age, genre and culture.
3-  I will probably be making music until the day I die, It’s my purpose and passion.
4-  I make music for open minded people and free spirits, those who can respect and accept different ways and kinds of views, cultures, philosophies, religions, sexualities, etc. I’m basically anti-bullying!

5-  Although I work mainly alone I love to collaborate with other people, whether it will be other artists, music producers, photographers, directors, etc.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I love to mix urban, hip-hop style aesthetics with punk, glam and grunge vibes.

I’m not a follower of trends, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not influenced or don’t like trends just because they’re trending. I like to create my own scene, whether it’s musically or fashion wise. So pretentious, but I don’t care (haha)

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

For me music is the most important thing! Lyrics are secondary and they’re there to be enhanced by the melody and rhythms. That aside, I usually like to keep the meaning of my lyrics a mystery, sort of like a David Lynch movie. When you explain it, I feel it loses some of its appeal and beauty. I like that the listener can also be creating it’s meaning and interpretation. But in general, I utilize cultural, social and personal references in my lyrics. I never get too political, I think music is not the place for propaganda, whether your ideas are good or not. Art, for me, is where we can explore freely the full range of human emotions, free of judgment and social pressure. We can do immoral and illegal things in art without hurting anyone. I think humanity needs art to exorcise its demons. So for me in lyrics, anything goes! Personal freedom, fun, love, existentialism, anxiety, here’s some of my topics but I like to go all places…

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’m a really big fan of cinema and I guess I would make a good film critic. Also I’m a big lover of literature and philosophy. Special talents, I guess not. I can’t cook to save my life. I can’t swim. I avoid driving my car. Traffic makes me anxious. I quit, I suck at almost everything, and that’s cool… (haha)

7. Being on stage feels like….!

The best and worst thing at the same time. I do feed off the energy of people during live performances and it’s very contagious. I bounce back that energy and as soon as you know we’re all jumping and dancing like crazy. It’s almost like the meaning of life. But there’s also that fear that you are sucking on stage, or when no one shows up, or no one is reacting to your music, and you have that thought in your head „why am I doing this??“.  But in the end I always end up having fun and meeting new people.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I started playing guitar and singing Nirvana songs when I was 10 years old, which were very simple to learn. I guess I just became obsessed with making my own songs so I spent hours and hours everyday getting better at it. It was fun! Much later I started using music software to create beats, arrangements and started to learn how to produce my own songs.

I’m still learning and loving it! I’m basically self taught but I try to learn from others as much as I can.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

I’ve never been asked:  “ Cats or dogs?“  The answer is: big up to both, but dogs are followers and cats are gods! (haha)
