There are a lot of good reasons to throw a pool party at the end of the year, especially if the weather is still warm where you live. Throwing a big party around the time that one year ends and another begins helps you to mark the time instead of having all your memories bleed together. Even if the weather is cold where you live at this time of year, it is fun to find an indoor pool and do something a bit unseasonal with friends. Parties are more fun when they’re organized around a theme, and here are some ideas that may work for your end-of-the-year pool party.

Movie Night

You’ve already called swimming pool financing companies and had the necessary work done to build the pool. To hold a movie night at the end of the year, you need to make a small extra expenditure and rent an inflatable screen, and perhaps a projector, so you can show movies by the poolside. The movie can be either New Year’s or holiday-themed, to match the occasion, or water-themed, to match the venue.

’80s Neon Party

With the advent of a new year, many people look back at the past with nostalgia. An ’80s-themed party is a way to have fun with what can sometimes be a poignant emotion. With neon-colored inflatables, your party can be totally tubular, both literally and figuratively. You should be able to find Day-Glo decorations from your local party store to continue the theme, and you should encourage guests to wear the brightest swimsuits they can find. Of course, it is not only the colors that bring this theme together. The best part of the ’80s was arguably the music, so put together a playlist of your favorite jams and prepare for the gnarliest pool party ever.

Summer Camp

This is another way to have a nostalgic look back in a more general way. Most people, regardless of the decade they grew up in, have an experience of going to summer camp, and this party theme is an opportunity for you and your guests to temporarily revisit high school. Build a bonfire by the poolside when the sun goes down and sing camp songs as you roast marshmallows or cook hot dogs. Play camp games such as capture the flag or Marco Polo. Don’t forget to pitch a tent.

Retro Surf

This is a way to slip into a romanticized vision of the past as presented in vintage surf movies. A color scheme of muted pastels helps to create the necessary mood, and Beach Boys records and similar surf music provide the grooves. Decorate with surfboards and wear big sunglasses to send everyone some good vibrations.

Nautical

You don’t have a yacht, and even if you did, you wouldn’t be able to sail it in the pool. Nevertheless, you have water, so it is perfectly appropriate to hold a nautical-themed party, the kind that you would have on a yacht if you had access to one. Decorate with anchors, life preservers, rope, sailboats, and other things you may find at sea. The nice thing about this theme is that it can be extremely elegant or, if you wish, it can be more informal. You can hand out sailor caps or captain’s hats for your guests to wear to make it more casual and silly fun.

White Party

If the nautical theme doesn’t appeal but you would like to throw a party that is elegant and sophisticated, consider a white party. The name is apt because all the decorations are supposed to be white and all the guests are supposed to wear that color primarily. White tea lights or flowers look amazing floating on the surface of the pool, and this kind of party is a good way to welcome the new year in style.

Most of these themes are family-friendly and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. A few are probably for adults only.
