The Mazda ICONIC SP. The new design study from Mazda.

Iconic. The Mazda ICONIC SP – the new design study from Mazda. In 2017, the Japanese manufacturer introduced its last vision – the Mazda Vision Coupe. A design that has won dozens of awards and has strongly influenced the signature of all subsequent models. Now Mazda is once again showing itself to be both aesthetic and sophisticated with the 2023 ICONIC SP study.

Surprisingly at a time when only SUV types seem to be seen on the roads, Mazda presents the ICONIC SP, the electrified vision of a compact sports car with a wow factor: red on the outside, dark blue on the inside with leather and ceramic. An idea that makes driving fun and that you simply enjoy looking at.

“We paid a lot of attention to the design of the frame. The unique proportion results from the low hood, which was made possible by the compact engine. Due to its small size, we were very flexible in the design of the over 4 meter long body and had plenty of freedom.”

Jo Stenuit, Design Director of Mazda Motor Europe, about the Vision Car.

The study is the successful combination of past and future for Mazda. It is based on the use of the legendary rotary piston engine that Felix Wankel began to develop in the 1930s. Mazda has been using it since 1967 in various models from the legendary 110S Cosmo Sport to the Mazda RX-8. With the current electric model MX-30 R-EV, the brand is proving how the rotary piston engine can still be successfully developed further today.

The rotary engine can run on a variety of different fuels, including green hydrogen or other climate-neutral liquid fuels. This makes the system a unique Mazda technology that is ideal for sports car use. And if the battery of the ICONIC SP is charged with electricity from renewable energies, CO2-neutral driving is possible.

With 370 hp, the ICONIC SP offers impressive performance that can be fully exploited, while the rotary piston generator also ensures sufficient range.

All in all, it is a new generation sports car. One that is made for a new age and conveys joy and sustainable awareness.
