Thabilé – „Read My Lips“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

Something grown up AND fun at the same time…like the “Slick Rick Cocktail“ would be perfect.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?

I have a new album that just came out called “Read My Lips“. And from the new album, I have three music videos already up on my Youtube channel. All my tour dates are available on my website (thabilemusic.com)

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

The multiverse theory has always intrigued me. To think of how our universe, as vast as it is, may just be one of many universes much larger than ours really puts things into perspective.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

“Haute couture“ using African print fabric and also a bit of “Streetwear“

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My songs are fun but not mindless fun. I want people to have a nice time while I pass a nice message onto them. “Read My Lips“ is a body positivity anthem about have autonomy over your own body. “In Repair“ is about me working through and repairing the effects of growing up fatherless. Though music keeps evolving, I still believe it is a form of communication and it’s important that people engage with the lyrics and message of each song.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I enjoy doing a lot of arts & craft like repurposing African wax prints to make year planners, picture frames, wall art, jewellery. I also do a bit of sewing when I have the time.

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Flying. Heart beats so fast in the first few minutes but once you get past them, there’s nothing more freeing.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

My mother was in a choir and that’s how my love of music started. I wanted to learn more so I joint the school choir when I was about 8 and I never stopped singing.
I then taught myself to write songs by just hearing how others write their songs and through online videos on songwriting tips.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Q: What is the saddest song you’ve ever heard?

A: “Gloomy Sunday“ by Billie Holiday. She transports heavy sadness so beautifully, yet hauntingly.
