Stefano May – „We Are The Power“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Please introduce yourself in a few words!

I’m Stefano, a guy like any other one that had the fortune to breathe music since an early age thanks to my father singing and playing many types of musical instruments.

I am a singer, songwriter and pianist that has made music my life.

2. Please give us an update about your new single and video.

“We Are The Power” is a song that was highly inspired by the times we are living in.  In the writing sessions my goal was to create a story that everybody could relate to and imagine the power we all have to make a difference.

I’m very happy about how the project turned out and the feedback has been incredible.  It’s wonderful to see people’s reaction and how many are now aware and have an increased desire to be inspired by everyday actions that can drive change for the future.

The video was made with the same purpose.  The video was not highly scripted or choreographed.  Before the video was filmed, we had a meeting to make sure all involved were themselves, that they were real, having fun and expressing their feelings.  I feel that we accomplished this and it turned out exactly as we had hoped, I am so happy!

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist.

1.  My main goal as an artist is to be able to share my music with as many people as possible.  To help accomplish this, during my youth, I learned English, Spanish and French in addition to my native language Italian.

2.  I always write about experiences that I have witnessed, lived through personally or stories that touched me in a special way.

3.  I often like to use my classical music background and knowledge as an influence in my pop projects.

4.  I am a classically trained pianist, and my heroes are Bach and Chopin.

5.  Besides my pop music, I love to write soundtracks for movies.  I find this very relaxing.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Versace – the style, grace and history of this brand has many ties to not only my music but also me as a fellow Calabrese. I always love to think that his way of expressing himself as an artist was a combination of the ancient and modern worlds. He was somebody who understood that knowing the past makes a huge difference on creating something new and timeless. He was from Calabria, Italy, like me.

5. What’s your songwriting process?

I always start with my fingers on the piano. Based on where my soul drives my hands, I come up with a melody and a story to share. Once the melody and story come to mind, I shift focus to the perfect words, then I produce a draft and finally with the producer, we work in the studio to fine tune the finished single. The music always comes first.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

More reality, less fiction.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics? Message?

Other than the fact that I like to write about personal experiences, I am always thinking about social issues in the world we live in.
