Sound of Fractures – „Ultraviolet“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you for joining us. Please can you give us  a bit of information about your recent releases and your forthcoming EP IRL?

I’ve just come off the back of my debut EP release called Real Friends, it’s still growing everyday which is really exciting. The second EP IRL is focussed on people, its inspired by the idea that even something or someone who is seen as ordinary can be deeply complex and beautiful if you look deeper. The idea came from watching people as I traveled and wondering what they were really like, I’ve found people who are quiet are often the most interesting. The artwork and visuals are focused on individual people, and the idea of when you dive deeper how complex they may be, and what they have experienced beyond what you see. The first single Ultraviolet is out now.

2. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I’m not even sure what that means… I like things that have been crafted well and have creativity and emotion behind them.  I’m not big on flashy brands. Maybe the production company A24, they have a brilliant brand and have made some of my favorite films and documentaries recently like Uncut Gems, Last Man In San Francisco, Mid 90’s, Good Time .. the list goes on

3. Tell us more about your music in general. Are there any particular messages you aim to convey?

I’m really interested in the idea of beauty in imperfection, both in the sound of my music but also in the stories and concepts. I find it hard to connect with music that’s too perfect, it lacks a soul and honesty and that’s what music is all about for me. It’s why I love sample based music, you can’t fake those rough edges.

4. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I love to discuss the things I’m passionate about.. and people seem to like to listen. Whether that’s music, mental health, building sustainable music careers, films, life, love .. I’m lucky that I’ve now got opportunities to do this as part of my career. I’m not sure how special it is to others, but it’s special to me if other people get something positive from it.

5. Name five things we should know about you as an artist?

My music is focused on connections, family and community, and giving value to the things in life that really matter.

I’ve been experimenting heavily in web3 looking at new ways to release my work and have recently sold out 3 collections.

I love to build a visual and immersive world around music

I started out making hiphop, and it’s still at the heart of everything I do,

I want to build relationships with people who love my music, I want them to be on this ride with me and not only feel part of the journey but get value from it too.

6. How did you learn to produce music?

My best friends’ brother was a Drum and Bass Producer and we would sit and play Fifa while he made beats, I think we made our first beats on some of his old equipment. It’s why I started out using samplers and an MPC, and I’m so happy I did as its still ingrained in the way I work and my music. We didn’t have YouTube tutorials, so we learnt by listening and experimenting … that’s how you found your sound.

7. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?(And answer please)

What are you working towards in your music career?

Balance, autonomy and ownership
