Shelter Boy – „I Stand With You“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

The pleasure is mine! I’m Shelter Boy, you can call me Shelly, I live in Leipzig and most of my time I spend writing songs.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Well there’s quite a lot going on atm, just released the last single (‘I Stand With You’) before my debut album comes out on 10th September. I’m very excited for that record to be released. We’ll be playing some more shows this year but a real headline tour will actually kick off next year around April/May.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

– My favourite food is Ramen
– Skateboarding is the important counterpart to music in my life
– For me it’s always taste over skill
– I´m a Beatles (especially) John Lennon stan

– I write the songs on my own

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I have to go for Fred Perry. When I was a kid I saved up all my money to get a FP shirt because all the bands like Arctic Monkeys, Oasis etc. rocked them on stage. Now I’m a very lucky guy and work with them, that’s something the 15 y/o Shelly would have never believed.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Most of the time I write very introspectively. To write my struggles and bad thoughts down helps me to live with them. It’s much harder for me to talk about certain issues than writing them down. I guess failure is one big topic that feels like a common thread in all my songs, that’s why the debut album is called ‘Failure Familiar’.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Don’t know if it’s a talent but I’m good at a lot of different sports. When I was a kid I wanted to learn it all, football, ice hockey, basketball, skateboarding – and now I still do these things.

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Feels like being free from all the anxieties and weirdness that is present in everyday life.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I always sang while playing guitar and that always sounded awful but I always kept doing it and somehow I found something like a timbre that works for me. I learned the guitar with various Beatles songbooks I just wanted to know how these fuckin’ songs are played.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What does shelter boy mean? It means I don’t wanna answer silly questions but I would answer why a parka is a very important piece of fashion.
