RYAN MEEKING – ‚ENDLESS RUN‘ + Exclusive Interview

Hello Ryan Meeking, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Good to be here! I’m from Australia, but let’s go somewhere else. See I’ve been busy fitting worlds into songs, places made for you and I. They’re easy to get into but there’s plenty to explore. Anything you’ve been holding onto lately? Let it go and jump in here. Need something concrete? I make indie-pop music.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My new single, Endless Run, is out now. The video, made with very new lighting tech, is out in the wild too. It’s good times here but feels like a long time in the making for me – though Endless Run is the youngest of its siblings.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  1. Until now, I really struggled with the wide variety of music I wanted to make. It took me a long, long time to realise I was a pop writer. That’s the only place it all fits.
  2. I’m obsessed with emotions, but only recently started writing about joy and euphoria. When I did, entire worlds opened.
  3. All of this music you’re about to hear is the first I’ve made while thinking ‘How does this physically make me feel? How does my body react to this?’
  4. We’re the same in so many ways, you and I – and the music I make is made for us all. I’m not even really me, I’m us.
  5. If you come with me, we won’t discover, we’ll create.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I’m from Melbourne – we wear black . But the part of me touching the ground is usually in a pretty loud hightop. If I could levitate, I would. Or maybe I do inside those heavy, high kicks…

Tell us more about your new single Endless Run! Topics! Message!?

Have you ever been so lost in the party you forgot about time altogether? Or been a part of that microcosmic festival community: invincible and transcendent? That’s Endless Run – all about the moment as if the moment could last forever and the people you connect with in those moments.

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I learn – really quickly when it matters. That’s how this music came about: I spent the best part of the last two years studying pop music, pulling it apart like machinery to figure out how it works. Then I started writing.

Being on stage feels like….!

Nothingness and everything at once. It’s instinctual, but there’s nothing like communing with an audience. Time moves differently on stage.

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

By ear mostly. I started out dabbling on my grandparents’ piano before I can remember. From there I studied music and various instruments during and after high school, but as intellectual as things got I’ve always come back to my ear. I don’t care how you rationalise it – and there’s certainly value in that – music is and always will be a feeling.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Q: If you met yourself 10 years ago, what would you say?

A: ‘You already know.’
