ROKI – „Foolish Heart“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

I love sparkling water with a splash of fresh lime, so I’d probably recommend that.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My new single ‚Foolish Heart‘ just came out January 30th, and the music video released February 1st. I’m excited about this one, it’s a bit spicier than my other releases.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

Oh gosh, this is a tough one, I’m not sure if this would be considered a conspiracy theory or quantum physics, but I like the idea of alternative realities, that somewhere out there, there is another me living another life that’s similar but slightly different. The reason it appeals is I hope that the people we’ve loved and lost are still in that reality.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Perhaps if I had to choose one, I’d say Schiaparelli, beautiful and at times odd.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Music has been a great emotional release for me, it helps me process my thoughts. It’s my therapy in a way. I tend to write when I’m struggling internally or have strong feelings about something, so because of that sometimes my songs can reflect the darker times of an experience. On my first album there were several songs around the topic of loss, though in my follow up album I centered it around love, wanting to make love work, and for my next album which I’m currently in the process of recording it’s a mixture of desire, disdain, and all facets of love…

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I love creating, I’m also a film producer and I have a women’s swimwear brand (www.prettybabyco.com), grab an itsy bitsy bikini for that special woman in your life 😉

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

Vulnerable

Driven

Even though I love making alt pop, my favourite music to listen to is soulful jazz, my favourite artist being Melody Gardot.

I love music to my core, and couldn’t see a life without it

When I see other artists succeed it inspires me to do better, it’s important we all try to encourage and cheer on other artists and creators, this is a hard path

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

My dad started encouraging me in music when I was very young, though I was super shy growing up, so it took me a while to outwardly embrace music and share my creations with others. I started playing piano when I was 10 and learnt to record music as a young adult. I’ve always loved music, I just had to work out the nerves.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

That’s tricky, perhaps, what’s your favourite song(s) you’ve written and why?

And I’d have to say I have 3 that come to mind immediately for different reasons.

„Let Go“ because it was the first song I’d written when starting my solo project ROKI, that felt right, and helped define my sound.

„Take Me“ because of its pure message. I wrote it at a very raw time in my life, when I was straddling the fog of grief and starting to remember myself, this song poured out of me and I didn’t want to change it to fit a musical mold or structure, I wanted to let it be the exact message it wanted to be.

Last but not least „Foolish Heart“ this song was a good lesson for me, to let go of self judgement. I was afraid to release it for quite a while as it felt too personal, but I’ve come to realize everyone feels these things from time to time and on the flip side nobody cares. When you realize that, it’s freeing.
