Revival of the Big Eyes – The new STOWA Tempora revives a successful classic

STOWA, the traditional watch manufacturer from the Black Forest, is launching its new Tempora collection, an expressive homage to one of its own most successful chronographs from 1968. In keeping with its striking name, the STOWA Tempora does more than just measure time. It accompanies its wearer through time spans and time periods, creating a link between the past, present and future.

Formerly an extravagant look – today an aesthetic eye-catcher

In 1968, the year the Tempora model was launched, “Big Eyes” – also known as “Panda” – were by no means an everyday sight. Today, the circular fields at “9” and “3”, in front of which the hands of the permanent seconds or minute counter rotate, are a familiar sight among watch connoisseurs. Here they stand out in color and clearly contrast with the rest of the dial. The hour markers and the minute hand with its distinctive triangular tip also immediately catch the eye and are reminiscent of the historical timepiece.

Function and precision meet an elegant look

The “Tempora” is powered by the SW510 movement, which is produced by Swiss specialist Sellita. It features an elegant Côtes de Genève finish, a rhodium-plated surface and carefully blued screws. This decoration can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.

On the front, double anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, which is in the style of the former STOWA “Chrono”. The hands for the hours and minutes are also reminiscent of the past, with precisely matching dimensions, and the indexing on the now fixed bezel also pays homage to past time periods at the traditional manufacturer. The openwork lugs are a particular highlight. Their curvature and length follow a traditional philosophy of experienced case makers: for optimum ergonomics on the wrist, the eightfold screw-down case back floats when the watch is placed on a table.

Four different versions

With a total height of 16 mm, this functional piece of watchmaking art is not only spoiled for choice in terms of dial color, but also in the design of the 44 mm diameter case. There are various “Panda” versions to choose from, as well as a pure black dial. In addition to a version in stainless steel on a stainless steel bracelet, the wearer can choose from various combinations in stainless steel with a black, highly durable “Diamond like Carbon” (DLC) finish on a vintage leather strap. Indexes and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for legibility in the dark.
