1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?
A cocktail of their choice on a balcony in Spain. Mojito probably!
2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
We’ve just released our new EP ‘Believe’ and we have a headline show at Chats Palace, London on 1st December.
3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!
We make funk/soul/disco type music influenced by acts such as Change, Chic, SOS Band, BBQ Band & Brothers Johnson
We’re three brothers – Dan, Reece & Luke Baker.
We play our live shows as a 9 piece band.
The three of us we born in Chelmsford but have lived in Basildon for most of our lives.
Our name means ‘life’ in Hausa. We wanted a name that felt like that of bands like Shalamar or Odyssey.
4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
There’s not a fashion style or brand in particular that’s describes our music but we tend to wear smart/casual stuff like revere collared shirts, smart/linen trousers, ribbed vests, classic trainers… there’s subtle nods to the 80’s casuals thing in there but we dress in a fairly modern way. If we were to say a brand some of Prevu’s summer 2022 collection would be pretty spot on. We do like some Zara stuff, Uniqlo, brands like that.
5. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)
That Tupac is still alive.
6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
The expectation that artists should be content creators. It’s obviously necessary in some respects these days but it’s something that all of us (if we’re honest) would be better off not having to worry about. That said there never been a better way to get eyes and ears on you so it’s really all about perspective!
7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
The main message behind our new EP is one of keeping the faith in whatever it is you’re doing in life and believing you have what it takes to achieve whatever it is you want in life.
Generally we try spread a positive message informed by lived experience.
8. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
What film best describes your new EP?
The Business starting Danny Dyer & Tamar Hassan. It’s a film we grew up loving. We love the soundtrack and clothes they wore in that film and so we referenced it for the music videos for our singles ‘Good Life’ and ‘Remember’ from the new EP. We filmed them in Alicante, Spain.
