RAYE – „Black Mascara“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Ooooh probably a huge glass of water because if you’re like me I don’t drink enough of it, and then a shot of tequila so you can really feel the lyrics with some passion!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My debut album will be released on the 3rd February 2023!

I released my very first song in 2014 so it’s been a while I’ve waited for this moment. New music coming always, new dates being announced soon, new videos coming soon, I can’t give specifics but everything is coming soon

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

This is a very funny question

I would say my theory is some people see blue as red and red as blue, so some people see a red ocean and some people see a blue one, how do we know we all see the same colours

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

This is difficult to answer because my new music is deliberately very eclectic.

Some feel like Valentino, some feels like cheap thrift shopping looks, some feel like Vivienne Westwood and some feel like Dolce & Gabbana. But this is just my opinion I’ll be interested to know what other people think

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My new music is very raw and honest.

Concepts about breaking out of corporate chains (hard out here), spiked drinks (black mascara), drug addictions & coping with PTSD (escapism), and some of the new songs on the album discuss concepts such as body dysmorphia, sexual assault/rape :(, environmental anxiety, there are a lot of varied intense and extreme themes I explored on this album.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I am very good at Mario kart, and I am good at binge watching TV, I also love drawing.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I play the piano.

I write songs for other artists too.
I used to play the cello and the flute.
I produce music and make beats all the time.

I have a dog called Yoshi hahah

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I was obsessed from a very young age, it wasn’t something I learnt by being taught more by looking everywhere I could to improve my natural skills in music.

I wasn’t a great singer when I was very very young but like everything if you love it and practice enough you get better, same with writing and production and piano. The more time you spend with the skill the better you become and I dedicated my whole life to trying to be better and learn and educate myself on the great musicians of our histories and what makes music special, I’m so passionate and in love with music in almost all forms.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What is the part of your job you could do without ?

Answer – probably social media,

Sometimes I wish I could just make music and perform shows and grow naturally, to not need to worry about being a content creator also but the world is changing and sadly it seems we must change with it or get left behind

Thank you so much for this interview, big kiss
