OurGlassZoo – „Free“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

We are an electronic rock band from Vancouver, Canada.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Our new album entitled ‚Aftermath‘ will come out in June, but we are releasing several singles before then. The first one was released on February 25th through SONY Orchard and is called ‚Free.‘ It features Canadian hip hop artist Prevail (‚Swollen Members‘) and we are in the process of doing a remix for that track with producer KutMasta Kurt (‚Linkin Park‘ & ‚Beastie Boys‘).

Our next single ‚Here‘ will be released on March 25th. Watch out for that!

We have a few new music videos coming up, but still have our latest music video ‚SINS‘ in the film festival circuit. It has been winning quite a few awards so far. In Germany it won the Berlin Short Film Festival and is in the Munich Music Video Awards as well.

As for tours – we have a big album release concert planned here in Vancouver and might actually have a small tour in Europe this year now that things are opening up. We would definitely love to come to Germany as well!

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

1.We are all Canadians, but only one member of our band was born in Canada.

2.And…yes…We all like maple syrup!
3.The name of our band is partially based on a Black Mirror episode
4.One of us is a filmmaker, one a carpenter, one a proofreader and one a sound engineer

5.Only one of us has been to Germany before. Can you guess who?

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

We definitely have a more futuristic fashion style which compliments the concept of OurGlassZoo. Maybe a mix of Blade Runner meets cyberpunk? However, the music on our new album is very diverse and includes rock, hiphop, pop, funk and electronic components. It was very exciting for us to bridge that many genres.

5. What’s your songwriting process?

During lockdown, we had to work remotely which was not always easy. We would send files to each other via dropbox. We actually managed to record a cover of ‚Dance Monkey‘ that way. It was all recorded and video taped remotely. You can check it out on our YouTube channel

We all much prefer to write songs organically though. One of us usually comes up with an idea and brings it to the band room. We also jam and record our sessions sometimes. More often than not there is some magic hidden in there somewhere.

On this album we also worked on a few tracks with musicians abroad and electronic producer O.K.A remotely. It was a challenge but also an opportunity to adapt to a new way of songwriting.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

That’s a tough question. There is definitely a bit of a superficial allure that comes with selling music. It seems that you should be rewarded for being talented, playing real instruments, being a great lyricist, not for how many followers you have on TikTok or how great you look with filters. Lyrics should still mean something and songs should still inspire.

We are in a very interesting time as far as marketing music with NFT and other platforms that allows artists to promote their music independently to a much wider audience.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Our songs will hopefully take you on a journey through different topics and themes. Our new album includes a nice blend of genres and there should be something for everyone’s taste.

The scary thing about our two latest singles was the subject matter and the timing.

Our single ‚Astronaut‘ was released about a month before COVID and the music video is about a dystopian world in which people need to wear masks to survive.

Our new single ‚Free‘ is about freedom & equality and was released when Russia invaded the Ukraine.

Our friends make fun and tell us to write a new song that is about a very positive, happy, harmonious topic since all our singles tend to predict the future.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
