NYRE – „Glitter with a Vengeance“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Of course, thank you! Well, my all time favourite drink is anything having to do with matcha – I’m drinking a dirty matcha oat latte as I write this! However, to really get into the Glitter with a Vengeance vibe, I think we need some sparkles so I’d recommend a carbonated pink lemonade to harness that pretty power.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My brand new single, Glitter with a Vengeance just dropped last Friday, June 2nd! And surprise, I will be releasing a futuristic AI-generated music video this Friday, June 9th at 11AM EST on my youtube channel! Also, if you’re in Toronto 🇨🇦 next month, make sure to catch me perform GWAV live on July 21st at Supermarket – follow me on IG more details!

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

Hmm, maybe where stuffed animals or dolls come to life when humans aren’t around. I used to wonder if this were true as a kid and would always try peering around corners after walking away from my calico critters haha! Maybe I was just lonely LOL.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Hmm, the more unexpected, experimental and eye-catching the better. I really enjoy blending in your face streetwear with elegant classics so Korean fashion is a huge inspiration for my style. However, recently I’ve taken to finding lesser known independent designers on instagram that create super intriguing pieces, such as Syckli for example.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Glitter with a Vengeance was inspired by the lingering memories left by and the mannerism we hold onto from those who have broken our heart. When the rose-coloured glasses fall off and the lavender haze clears, the person who was once kinder than anyone else now weaponizes how much you are in love with them to become more personally cruel than anyone else. Glitter with a Vengeance is the battle song for those trudging through the psychological back and forth between the slivers of good and overwhelming bad memories. For those ready to reclaim their hopes for the future and redirect their expressions of love towards themselves, Glitter with a Vengeance is sure to strike a fire within.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Beyond music, I’m obsessed with knowledge and learning as much as I possibly can about the world as I genuinely want to make a progressive impact with my life. I’m currently half way through a Master of Global Affairs degree which I plan to blend with my music career in order to make a difference fueled by my ultimate creative passion: storytelling through music.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  1. NYRE is my name backwards as I hope for my artist image to be the most confident and unapologetic version of myself that I am trying to be in my day to day personal life.
  2. I began acting before music so storytelling and performance are always front of mind when I’m creating.
  3. I plan to engage as many senses as I can in my future arena and stadium shows from music, lights, visuals, dance to audience involvement and maybe even scents. I have no clue how I’d do this yet but a choose your own adventure concert could be super engaging and collaborative in the future.
  4. When recording vocals, I see the microphone as the person I’m singing the song to or about, and sometimes put a picture of them behind it to bring a lot of positive or negative raw emotion into the recordings.
  5. I will forever and always be a proud cat lady hehe 😻

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I took piano lessons when I was young which has helped with playing and reading music immensely now, however I learned to sing alone in my bedroom with Halsey’s Badlands album on endless repeat since I was too nervous to sing in front of others as a kid.

9. How did you overcome your fears then to be able to be the artist you are today?

In 2019 I had finally hit my threshold for accumulated years of regret and was going through a very cruel breakup; the perfect recipe for a new artist right? 😂 I got to a point where I had to ask myself if I’d rather never give myself a shot at my dreams, save myself potential embarrassment and be my own reason that my chances were 0 by never trying, or decide the only life I’ve ever wanted is worth potential embarrassment for and that I’d hate myself more for not going after even a sliver of a chance above 0%. Luckily, I clearly went with the latter and would immediately recommend anyone else in those same shoes to JUST START. You’re worth the time and effort it takes to learn a new skill, and you’re supposed to be bad when you begin something. View failure as inevitable building blocks to success; the sooner you fail, the sooner you’ll succeed. Everyone is so concerned with how other people may perceive them that no one actually has time to perceive anyone but themselves, live your life – it’s the only one you get.
