MYKITA x PARK SEO BO – EXCLUSIVE ART EDITION

The internationally renowned painter Park Seo-Bo is an institution in the Korean art world. He remained an active figure in the art world until his death in 2023 at the age of 91. Park’s love for high-quality eyewear is well documented and he dedicated his collaboration with MYKITA as his final project. For the design of the Art Edition MYKITA l Park Seo Bo, he chose an archetypal, round frame with an elegantly curved nose bridge. This minimal form provided the ideal canvas for his signature colors, which were chosen carefully and in close collaboration with MYKITA to match the color schemes of his famous Écriture series.

Park Seo-Bo believed in the healing effects of nature’s colors and created his meditative works with the intention of absorbing the worries of the viewer. His use of color was inspired by everyday scenes, such as the sight of sunlight hitting autumn leaves, resulting in his distinctive neon red. The Art Edition 1 OF 0 is available in three different color variants: Maple Leaf, Golden Olive and Charcoal. Each color variant is limited to 333 copies.

Inspired by one of the fundamental materials used by Park Seo-Bo, each 1 OF 0 glasses comes with a certificate of authenticity and exclusive packaging made from traditional Korean Hanji paper. The glasses case contains a limited edition cleaning cloth printed with the colors of the respective artwork.

„My grandfather had a particular taste in eyewear and was a long-time, avid wearer of MYKITA“ , says Park Ji-Fan, grandson of Park Seo-Bo. „He was excited about this opportunity to work on his own design, andI think the resulting frames gave him much joy to wear personally.“

„It was an honour to realise this project with Park Seo-Bo, a true master and pioneer in his field, whose minimalist, beautifully crafted and richly detailed works so connected with our own sensibilities“ , says Moritz Krueger, founder of MYKITA. „Despite the distance, we enjoyed a very analogue development process between Berlin and Seoul, and deeply appreciated the real and honest nature of our creative exchange.“
