1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!
Hey everyone! My name is Mat Hannah, I was born and raised in a little city called Charlottetown in a tiny province called Prince Edward Island on the east coast of Canada! I’m married to the love of my life Kelsey and we have a rescue pitbull named Sweetpea (my favorite tattoo is Sweetpea)!
2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
My debut single ‚Unlucky‘ is available everywhere you stream or buy music and the video is on YouTube! I am releasing an EP in September with some new videos! No tour dates yet – but I am actually doing a month long residency at a local venue in Charlottetown every Friday in September to celebrate the release of my EP
3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!
Oh jeeez – 1. I actually taught my self how to play guitar on my brother’s acoustic guitar that I wasn’t allowed to play – I became obsessed with watching acoustic covers on YouTube and seeing live music and caught the bug immediately (I’m positive therea some EMBARRASSING clips of me as a teenager playing music) 2. I actually love co-writing music and hope to write for other artists some day! 3. I am co-front man of a Pop Punk band called Little Cities 4. I have been playing in bars since I was 15 5. I always wanted to be a drummer but never had the space or money for a kit growing up!
4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
Wear whatever you want to and makes you feel comfortable – I personally love me some Levi’s jeans and a Jean jacket – unless it’s Sunday then it’s sweatpants and oversized hoodies on the couch
5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
I tend write a lot of sadder songs, which is odd because I’m generally a pretty upbeat and happy person! My friends and family comment on it all the time people all the time, and intell them when I am happy and feeling on top of the world, I like to take advantage of that feeling and go out and be social, catch with old friends and live life! When I’m sad, I don’t wanna be sad so I get all that shit off my chest through music, I find that sadder emotions just hit harder, I don’t know haha.
6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?
I graduated Culinary School in 2012/13 – it’s where I met my wife! So I guess cooking would be a talent?! I’m also extremely talented with one-liners and dad jokes! I’m confident I can drink a Twisted Tea in 2.9 seconds!
7. Being on stage feels like….!
There’s no other feeling in the world, when I get to perform with a band, every bad thing in the world just doesn’t matter, you can’t wipe the smile off my face with a dirty rag! I can’t wait to play these tunes love!
8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??
I taught myself and took every opportunity possible to play when I could and got feedback and built it all from there! My brother was a huge inspiration and actually let me play bass in his bar band when I was 15! When i was younger I loved to write stories and movie ideas, when I learned to play guitar it all just came together eventually! I have been humbled to work with some incredible award winning songwriters and producers like Davor Vulama & Gavin Brown in my career so far – every session ive had i learn new things and it adapts my songwriting for the next track!
