MASAKA “LIGHTS” FT. STELLA EXPLORER + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

Thank YOU! I think a good Boulevardier. Or a large cup of Lapsang. Anything that suits sobbing really.

2. Please give us an update about your new single “LIGHTS” and forthcoming debut EP!

Well ‘’LIGHTS’’ is the last single off of the upcoming EP. It features ‘’Stella Explorer’’ who is, other than a great friend, a mesmerizing artist. I had the chorus of this song for a while and didn’t know how to finnish it. As soon as I had convinced Stella to jump on it the rest of the song wrote it self pretty much. It’s a song about being torn between different perspectives regarding trauma, where me and Stella represent two of the many sides.

The EP is straight up heartbreak songs. I hope I never have to write anything like it again.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

Ever since I changed my ‘’A random fact you love’’ prompt on my Hinge profile to ‘’The earth is actually flat!’’ my matches have drastically gone south…

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Well I’ve been wearing ‘’Our Legacy’’, ‘’Hope’’ and ‘’All Blues’’ in my videos so I feel like I should shout them out.

5. Tell us more about your songs and the topics/ messages you portray in your music.

So the songs on this EP talk about the thoughts that buzz around in your head after a great loss. I’m a pretty logical person and after going through my last breakup I felt like I was going a bit insane. I’ve also never been one for diary writing but I felt like writing my thoughts down would help me in sorting them out. So I started writing over some really basic tracks I had. And pretty quickly these songs started taking form.

It’s funny how I’ve always seen heartbreak music as something a bit basic. But writing these songs has been anything but easy for me.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’m an intermediate soccer player. Oh and a mediocre belly dancer aswell!

7. Name 1 thing we all should know about you as an artist?!

Writing these songs is the first time I’ve sung and written text/melody in 15 years.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

When I was 10 I started a new school where we sung classical choir music pretty much every day as part of the curriculum. That led to meeting a lot of new friends who where into music so we started a few bands and started writing together. When I was 15 I stated playing the bass in one of the bands and then I went on to study jazz bass playing in high school and then at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

’Would you have become a pro soccer player if it wasn’t for the injury you sustained at age 14?’’

Yes, that is very likely.
