LZ7 drop „Back In Time“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hey twisted magazine. This is Lindz here from LZ7. We are an EDM/live group from all over the UK . Thanks so much for having us!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Back in time was written and recorded with Nathan C and Joel Edwards. When I first played me the idea for a song I could hear a banger in the making. It’s a really positive uplifting reminiscent track that takes you back to that moment where everything changed. You know those corner things that bring that euphoric feeling when I drop happens at a festival!? We then pitched the track to a few DJs and Charlie hedges from Radio 1 took us up on the offer. It’s such an honour to have such a big name remix one of our songs!

The music video was filmed in numerous locations across London and everything has been fimed backwards and then turned forwards. A very surreal concept to walk backwards singing backwards, I learn the lines backwards to make it happen,  through the streets of London and have people walking forwards. Bit of a mind twister! Absolutely love doing it and I hope you enjoy the results!?

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

1. We absolutely love Nando’s and any type of burger – our sound engineer is also called Burger!!

2. Everything on tour is based around when we are eating next!

3. Alongside the music we do high school tours doing workshops focusing on mental health and well-being in young people and the music fronts all of this. Just before lockdown we partnered with the police in London to do a peacemaker knives down schools to where we will do a knife and misty in anonymous places, melt the noise down and turning into a gym in the local park. Really looking forward to getting this started again now restrictions are easing!

4. We started our own independent label called light music in 2010 and dropped our first single into the charts which landed at number 26. The next single went to number 12. The majority of this success was based around our school tours.

5. Lots of people think that I (Lindz) look like a young Chef Ramsay – I’ll take that…

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

We have had a few Collabs in the past with a few fashion labels that have worked really well. I guess our fashion vibe is a bit of retro fused with a bit of now. I love old retro Harley Davidson T-shirts, crop trousers and a pair of cons to chill and a big baggy track suit for the tour bus! The music is so up-tempo and positive that anything that fits with that goes!

5. What’s your songwriting process?

This changes all the time. I might have a top line written in my voice notes that I’ll send to a producer and will start the song there. Or I’ll get sent to be and we start writing the top line over the top of that beat. Then, once we got an idea, we will jump in the studio and throw as many ideas at the wall and see what sticks! For the last album we booked a barn for two weeks and built a studio in it…. That was an utter vibe and so creative and mega productive!

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

As an indie we definitely see how difficult it is to get above the noise in the music industry. I think some of that could change and has changed through the digital outlets being more accessible. I’d love to see more independence getting support from platforms so we can all create and people can hear our stuff.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Our live show is mega high energy with everything from mosh pits right the way back to dance offs in the middle of the festivals/gigs/clubs. We absolutely buzz off this energy and then take that energy into the studio to create again!

When we go into high schools we focus on mental health and well-being. This naturally comes out in some of our tracks in a positive manner. We love to leave people with a huge smile on their face and that euphoric sense they get when they turn up to a festival. That really influences our writing process and topics. Back in time was written about the moment where everything changed in your life. That could be when you met a girl, when something good happened or anything that you want to reminisce about! Music has this universal way of cutting through culture, heritage, background, social status and speaks straight to the heart. I really hope our songs resonate a positive anthem with young people that they can be the best version of them that they can be by living their life on purpose. The music fronts that with a message to ‘never give up’.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Question: There is something different about your music and I can’t put my finger on it! What is it?

Answer: So much of our content is inspired by who we are and how we can make an impact on this world for good, whether thats inspired by a higher power or something on the inside that drives us to be the best version of us that we can be! For us in LZ7, coupling faith and music inspires us to do just that! Life is a journey that we get to do together and together we  get to make the difference for good in other peoples lives by what we do today! Loved this interview! Thx for having us!
