JUSTIN WELLINGTON – ‘REPLAY’ + Exclusive Interview

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new single ‘Replay’

Oh yeah, my pleasure! Drink my favourite – rum, club soda, sugar cane with lime! 😉

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Yes well, my new single is called „Replay“ and I’m hugely excited for it to finally be out. It’s a cover of a great hit song by Iyaz. I always liked the original so it’s a great thrill and honour to do my own version. With tour dates, I’m constantly performing and travelling. I have some very exciting shows coming up soon here in Australia, then I’ll be going to Vanuatu in April, Samoa in May, and I’m planning to do some shows in the US in the summer. That’s what’s on the cards for now but it can always change! 🙂

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true?

Wow the Tupac being alive theory would be pretty cool 🙂 I was a huge fan of his „All Eyez On Me“ album…some great songs on there!

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Gotta be island style…tropical shirt, Havana hats and shell necklaces hahaha

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Always gotta be positive, with love. Island and festive themes…my favourite! 🙂

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I play volleyball every day, I love to cook and I can fold my ear three times!

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  1.  Despite a few covers here and there I’ve written most of my own songs
  2. I listen to very different styles of music to get my inspiration (Afrobeat, Country, Latin-Pop etc)
  3. I always create the melody first, then lyrics after….so my demos sometimes sound like I’m singing in complete gibberish.
  4. Most of the vocals in my songs are recorded right here in my bedroom…including „Iko Iko“!
  5. I was already performing „Replay“ at my shows for years before I recorded it 🙂

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

Mainly just from singing at home. My mother always had great music playing in the house, so I think there began my love for melody. Then when I was in high school I joined the school performing arts team and started performing in talent shows, and I started performing professionally and writing songs straight out of high school and ever since!
