Jeremy Voltz – “Miracles” + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

A dark and stormy

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My new single ‚Baby This is Worth It‘ is the only song I’ve recorded that made my wife cry. It’s a raw performance that introduces a new, hard-hitting sound for me as an artist. I don’t hold back in this track, which is about that difficult place in a relationship where you believe in it so much, but your partner has one foot out the door. ‚Baby This is Worth It‘ is a followup to the gritty pop of “Miracles,” my first release from my new album, and this song hits hard. My producer and collaborator Oliver Charles got some amazing vocal takes out of me for this one. We shot a music video for it that was filmed in a Swingers club in Mississauga, Ontario, and we had to move quite a bit of dungeon equipment to film it! Stay tuned for more off this new album through 2023.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I mean, if aliens really did build the pyramids, that would be kind of awesome right? Are they coming back? Why’d they do it? Life would be a lot more interesting if there were aliens just coming down and making cool stuff with us.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

This project would best be described by fashion inspired by sci-fi films like Blade Runner and Dune, mixed with a bit of Sherlock Holmes and a touch of film-noire detective. There’s a theatricality in the music that would lean into costume design.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

I call the songs on the album „Battle songs for the empathetic.“ They are honest explorations of courage in ourselves and our relationships. They’re about strength, bravery, and persistence. I want this music to give people strength and courage!

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I have a PhD in mathematics so I can help you solve your calculus problems. 🙂

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

1. It’s all about the groove. I was a drummer before I was a singer, so groove is extremely important to me.
2. A lot of the songs that I write are inspired by conversations I would like to have with people in my life.
3. I have an improv comedy background, and I bring this love of play and collaboration to my music. I love creating music with other people because it allows space to play in the studio or on stage.
4. My writing has been influenced by the jazz leaning music of Countermeasure, a vocal acapella group I was a founding member of and still sing with.
5. I love all types of art and creation – I created an illustrated lyric book of my song „One Day at a Time“ that I’m extremely proud of!

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

My first instrument (after realizing I hated the clarinet) was the drum set, and living in the middle of the woods in a small town in Ohio, I could play all day without upsetting any neighbours. I fell in love with Carter Beauford and John Bonham’s playing, and became obsessed with learning every fill and groove they ever played. After four years of drum lessons through middle school and high school, I discovered Jeff Buckley’s Grace and everything changed. I went hard at singing, which to my surprise, I had a knack for. I learned to play guitar to accompany myself, and joined the high school choir. Everything I create musically is influenced by my first love…the drums.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Who is your favourite drag queen?

I’ve gotta go Monét X Change, mostly because I had a dream where Monét and I were best friends, and she gave me a makeover, and all of my friends were jealous. It was a great dream!
