Jack Galloway – new EP „Only Hours In“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

No problem!:)

My name is Jack Galloway. I’m a London-based singer-songwriter and music producer. My music sort of bridges a modern take on classic 80’s rock with influences of pop-country and pop-rock.

I’m a keen traveller and I love philosophy / the big existential questions life … And I think both these things are reflected in the kinds of song I write / videos I shoot.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Well my EP ‘Only Hours In’ just dropped a few days ago, along with the single ‘Falling For You’, which is on the EP.
I’ve also released a video with the song which myself, my band and some of my friends filmed in Portugal way back in the summer before the pandemic hit us! We’re all pretty proud of that video!
I’m also about to drop a music video for ‘Anima’ (track 3 on the EP) later on in the month, which was filmed on Tulum beach in Mexico earlier in the year.
Whenever I’m in a new location, I like to take the opportunity to make new music videos. And in the aftermath of this EP, I’ve got about 10 more cover videos on the way, all filmed in various spots around Italy, Portugal, Mexico, the UK… So I’ve got quite a lot of songs on the horizon!

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  1. I’m a pretty outspoken guy. Speaking my truth / asking deep questions / thinking freely is fundamental to who I am, and to my songwriting. And I’m quite unapologetic about this – even if the result is that some people find it ‘too much’. I’d rather connect with a smaller subsection of fans who are kindred spirits, than deliver easy-to-swallow sound bites that appeal to the masses.
  2. I LOVE to party, drink a lot with my friends, and push boundaries … but I also love to chill at home, read philosophy, hit the gym, and cook healthy food. Life is all about balance!
  3. I care a great deal about my friends, my family, and my whole tribe (including my fans) deeply! I’m an only child who lost both his parents at a young age, which taught me that being able to stand on your own in this life is very important, but so too is the appreciation and value you place in those closest to you!
  4. I was raised on classic rock, shaped as a teenager by pop-punk, and fell in love with country when I was a young adult. And these three genres are the main influence behind my songwriting.
  5. I believe the world is vast and that in the short time we have on this planet, we would be wise to engage with as much of it as possible and immerse ourselves in new experiences with an open mind. I truly feel that a great deal of the social norms we accept as ‘universal truth’ that may actually be preventing us from becoming our most fully actualised selves!

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I guess if you blend the ’80’s rockstar’ look with the ‘surfer / beach guy’ look, you’d probably land at something quite similar to me.
I certainly don’t have any time for the majority of designer labels or what’s intended to be cool in fashion these days. I’ve always been drawn to a particular kind of style, and have no intention of being a follower of modern trends / copying the influencers.

As far as brands go, what matters far more to me is the ‘fit’ rather than the brand. I’d sooner get a £3 t-shirt and tailor it to fit my physique than buy a £100 t-shirt that looks like a potato-sack. I do have to give a shout-out to All Saints though. Of all the high street shops, they’ve always got something which I feel I can sport, and their leather jackets are consistently awesome!

5. Do you have bad habits? A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?

I’m a dreamer … I procrastinate!

I often find my mind going at a hundred miles an hour which makes me want to start a new task before I’ve finished my last. I’ve gotten much better with this as I’ve gotten older, I think. But the instinct to regress is still there, so it’s something I need to be conscientious of on a day to day basis, or else I’ll just end up thinking a lot and getting nothing done! Haha.

I also watch Made In Chelsea!

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Well actually before I went into music, I had a whole different life and career. I’m a personal trainer, clinical nutritionist, and cognitive behavioural therapist. And I love helping people where I can. I guess this isn’t really a ‘talent’ – it’s more of an acquired set of skills.

I’ve never really had any natural talent for anything – except perhaps telling a story and engaging the minds of people I’m speaking with. My abilities as a musician / health professional are skills I’ve developed because of an interest. But these are definitely my two biggest loves – music, and the ‘human condition’, as it were! Haha.

Oh and I also make my own music videos … But I would hardly call that a special talent. My ability as a videographer / editor is definitely in its infancy compared to some of the content creators out there!

7. Being on stage feels like….!

If it’s a good gig, and the audience have a great energy, it’s the biggest rush ever! It’s like you’re in total control, but also simultaneously have no control whatsoever.

… However, if the sound-engineer isn’t good, it sucks and feels like the most disorienting thing ever! Haha

8. Must Have – and No-Go in your Wardrobe! – Favorite Fashion Brand and Fragrance?

Must-have:
  • Black / brown / faded leather jackets.
  • Slim-fit jeans … I love the faded out look of denim too so if I can find unique-looking, torn-up, bandana-covered jeans, that’s all the better.
  • Slim-fit t-shirts with a deeper neckline.
  • Leather or beachy accessories / necklaces / bracelets
No-go:
  • Hawaiian shirts.
  • Sweatshirts
  • Short shorts.
  • Super expensive designer jewellery / bags / watches etc … I’ll never understand it!

Fragrance … I’m sorry but I’m going to decline that question! Haha. Everyone asks me, but I’d prefer to keep that a secret so that fragrance stays my signature smell.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
