I WANT POETRY – EP „Solace“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi! We’re Tine and Moritz of Dream Pop Duo I WANT POETRY. Thanks for having us!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

We’ve just released our new EP “Solace”, and there’s a bunch of new videos on our YouTube channel to go along with the songs. We had tons of fun making them. The most recent, for the song “Tongue” features us driving in a marvelous old car, a 1982 Peugeot 604 the color of a summer sky. Which is a perfect match for the music – the song has a lot of longing nostalgia, like a road trip to lighter days, when everything was new and carefree and exciting.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

ONE – We are constantly creating. Even if we weren’t a band, if we weren’t touring or recording – we’d always be writing songs.

TWO – We love making music videos.

THREE – The new EP is the first half of our upcoming second album “Solace + Light”, which is coming out in winter.

FOUR – We love experimenting with sounds from unusual sources and building large and complex soundscapes …

FIVE – … but the most important thing to us is always that the music carries the raw emotion of the song as we wrote it.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Anything that flows around your skin like a summer breeze. Recently, we’re totally into everything retro. If you could have worn it on the porch of a beach house in the 80s, we’re already in love.

5. What’s your songwriting process?

It’s a circular thing… it usually starts with a single element, like a piano melody or a vocal line or a simple beat, and then it evolves. The song immediately tells us what it’s about, and we follow where it leads us.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

The music industry is changing all the time, like things are shifting ever faster. It’s like an organism. One of the big topics of today, of course, is representation, and we see a lot of great things happening there – we think the most innovative, daring and fascinating artists today are women. St. Vincent, Aurora, Half Waif, …, the list is endless and they all are such an inspiration.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Writing the songs for “Solace”, we were in a very introspective mood. We had all these questions on our minds, existential things like: Where do we come from? How can we make sense of what we do and what happens to us? What will remain of us – what do we take with us? What gives us hope and the strength to go on?

We found that solace can be found in the knowledge that everything matters. Sometimes it’s the inconspicuous – small gestures or kind words, giving someone comfort – that will have an impact far beyond our own lives.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What drives you?

Of course, we’d be doing it anyway – writing songs, playing live, making art. But what really drives us is when we feel that we connect with people, and that through the songs, people get to connect with themselves. We see that at our concerts, and it’s the most rewarding feeling ever.
