I AM SNOW ANGEL – „LOST WORLD“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

Kombucha. It’s mellow and a little weird.

2. Tell us about your new album, Lost World, and its latest single, “Sweet As You”.

Lost World is a dystopian journey that ultimately ends with  redemption and hope. I created this album during the pandemic — it was my creative and spiritual outlet. All of the angst and darkness and hope and love that were chaotically swirling around in my body came together in to form these songs. I wrote “Sweet As You”  during the first stretch of the pandemic when we were quarantining in a cabin in the woods. I was taking care of my infant son all day and working on music at night. I wrote this song for him. I played my favorite guitar — my black JA90 Telecaster Thinline. Lost World is the first full-length album I’ve created as a mother. I’ve noticed a change in my emotional depth and capacity. I feel everything so much more.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist.

1.) I feel spiritually connected and sometimes even euphoric when I interface with technology to make music.

2.) I love connecting with listeners and other musicians, but I also really love working alone in my studio.

3.) On occasion, I feel like songs are channeled through me. They show up fully formed, without a conscious writing process.

4.) I feel compelled to make music every day. It’s not a choice, more of a calling.

5.) I’m a mom to an almost 3-year old boy.

4. What fashion style or brand would you say best describes your music?

I think anything that’s “dreamy, sci-fi chic.” For this new album, the dystopian, Blade Runner vibe is also very fitting.

5. Tell us about some of the themes that run through Lost World.

The loss and sadness that I — and all of us — have experienced during recent times. An eerie feeling of disillusionment – both personal and collective – influenced my writing. The title track describes a harsh dystopian landscape (literally a Lost World). This dystopian theme is also present in “Twisted Romance,” in which people’s memories can be erased from a collective digital matrix. But there are also glimmers of hope on this album. There are silver linings as new life emerges from the wreckage  (“Sweet As You”).

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I love pole dancing. I made a pole dance music video for one of my songs a few years ago — “Losing Face.” (https://www.c-heads.com/2016/06/21/exclusive-videpremiere-losing-face-i-am-snow-angel-pole-dance-interpretation/)

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Exhilarating and cathartic. Sometimes scary or exhausting. Sometimes all of this at once.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I sang with my dad every day when I was young. I started taking piano lessons when I was about 6,  and then I taught myself how to play guitar when I was in high school. Eventually, I stumbled into the world of electronics, production, and audio engineering. That’s when I AM SNOW ANGEL was conceived.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before. Plus the answer to that question.

When did you know that music would be your life’s work?

I think I knew on a deep level from an early age that I would be a musician for life, but I didn’t allow myself to believe it. I went down other rabbit holes and career paths, but it feels like music is where I would have inevitably landed, no matter what. And then once I dove into the world of electronic production and sound design, I found my niche and knew that I could pursue a real career in music.
