Hamilton is a well-known name in Hollywood: since 1932, the watch models from the traditional company have been featured in more than 500 high-profile films. Together with the makers of “Dune: Part Two”, Hamilton is now breaking new ground. To date, Hamilton has either used existing designs, resurrected timepieces from his archive, or created entirely new models for his on-screen appearances. However, the world of Dune required a different approach. Director Denis Villeneuve asked Hamilton to work with prop master Doug Harlocker to create a „wristwatch“ for another world – a world that breaks the traditional rules of watchmaking. Without knowing what purpose the “wrist device” would serve, the designers of Hamilton were guided by the stories written by fantasy and science fiction author Frank Herbert and the cinematic vision of director Denis Villeneuve. The result is a robust Fremen gadget that showcases the sophistication of Doug Harlocker perfectly reflected and was approved by Denis Villeneuve.
While the “Desert Watch” is only available on the desert planet Arrakis, Hamilton was inspired by the collaboration and launched two limited edition models in February 2024, in time for the release of “Dune: Part Two”. The two Ventura wristwatches surprise with an elegant blue dial in reference to the iridescent blue eyes of the Fremen. At the touch of a button, the Ventura Bright is reminiscent of the bright blue lines of the dial of the original “Desert Watch”. The brand new Ventura Edge, on the other hand, scores points – based on the relief elements of the film prop – with the matt black PVD coating of its housing and a digital time display in blue.
The packaging of the two limited edition watches was also inspired by the film and will not only make the hearts of fans of the films and books beat faster, but also those of collectors.
