GOLDING „BOXING UNDERWATER“ FEAT. CAILIN RUSSO + Exclusive Interview

Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi I’m Jay, one half of Golding. Golding is basically a name for the time that my friend Matt and I spend together making music we want to listen to.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

We’ll have another two singles released this year and plans for an EP next year! We’re also going on our first Australian tour in September/October this year supporting Boo Seeka, so if you want to see us live there’s your chance.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  • Matt mixes and usually masters all of our music because he is a weapon.
  • I record all of my vocals on a terrible microphone standing about half a meter away with the monitors on to test Matt on his mixing skills. Lol
  • We like to perform live with our friends, Matt plays drums for Lastlings and I do a few things in Boo Seeka.
  • Matt and I have been making music together for about 10 years but have only been releasing it for the last 3.
  • We have two boxers from the same litter named Mowgli and Bruno.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Probably a good quality pair of denim jeans. You’re able to wear them anywhere and they go with everything. They’re timeless and never go out of style. You can also definitely wear them out dancing (for adventurous dancers more stretch in the denim is advised haha)

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Most of our songs are about things I’m going through in my life, but have gotten good at keeping them just vague enough to let the listener create their own story. For example ‘Don’t Waste Your Love’ sounds like a love song but it’s actually about struggling with anxiety.

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Surfing, I don’t know if it’s a special talent but definitely it’s a life long hobby and a love of mine.

Being on stage feels like….!

Playing live is opening yourself up to a room of people, usually strangers. It’s terrifying, exciting and liberating.

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

When I was growing up, usually during Thanksgiving my family would put on a “No Talent show”. Each family would dress up and perform a song (usually drunken lip syncing and dancing). It was so fun and I always loved how it would connect all of us. I fell in love with music and performing there.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What venue is at the top of your list to play?

Red Rocks for sure. Definitely top of our list.
