Flamyngus – „Sweet Boy“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Thank you for having me! My new song is about two guys having a sweet summer date. So if you listen to it during the day, it’s time for a strawberry milkshake. In the evening: Go with a “Tequila Sunset“.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My new single “Sweet Boy“ came out in July 2022 and it’s the first song of my Debut-EP which will be released this fall. I’ve been working on it for the last two years and it means an emotional step for me, because I’m no longer hiding the queer point of view in my songs. My next single „Trigger Mich“ is already on the way to be released on 2nd of September with another video clip, before the EP finally drops in fall.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

Have you heard of „Queer Heaven“ ? It’s a place where no one has to fear violence or to be discriminated against due to the way they live, love or look like.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I really like the idea that your fashion style shouldn’t be limited by socially constructed gender. So the style I feel my music and myself connected to is kind of a gender-neutral “Pop Couture“ look.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

I’m driven by the struggle of coping in this fast-moving and overwhelming world: My songs are about falling in love, about transience, but also about the dilemma of illicit affairs, frozen relationships or gone friendships. Always with some certainty in mind that new beginnings have power, even or especially after sad experiences. Nobody knows where it all goes, but what’s for sure is that standing up for your beliefs is key. So I invite you to dance away socially constructed pressure with me! 🙂

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Oh I really just love to dance! But would rather call it another passion. I used to dance in a latin dance group for a long time and whenever there’s a beat, you’ll find me on the dance floor.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

– I moved to Berlin two days before first lockdown in March 2020. The „Silent Berlin“ – experience was challenging, but made me write a lot of songs.

– When I write something new, I listen to the demo on repeat the whole night while dancing around to it at home. I’m always unable to sleep then. But a song wants what it wants.

– When we shot the music video to “Sweet Boy“ in a neighborhood in Hamburg, my team and I where threatened with violence and discriminated against by some homophobic guys. What an irony.

– I wrote a song about dating in times of Corona and named it „Lockdown Lover“.

– I really can’t eat anything at least 2h before going on stage.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I started singing and writing at the age of 18. Before, I forced myself to play on a soccer team when I was a teenager, cause I thought that’s what “real guys“ have to do. I was completely bad at it. After years of not even hitting the ball, I had enough and quit. And as luck would have it, a local band was looking for a singer right at that time. I played some guitar and keys a little, but always wanted to sing, so now that I quit soccer I went to their rehearsal. I was so nervous, but after that day I got hooked, started writing songs, practiced singing and suddenly had a band. Music helped me a lot coming out & getting rid of conventional constructs. So for me it has become passion and relief at the same time.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Q: What question would you like to be not asked anymore?

A: Im looking forward to the days when the question “Are you gay?“ won’t be a thing in this world anymore.

Thanks.
