1 Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!
Hey! I’m Emily Roberts. I am a half English, half German musician based in Berlin.
2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
Right now im in the process of Releasing my EP “thank you for leaving.” It will be out on April 1st and I’m super excited for it. Almost two weeks ago, my song “Hemingway” came out. It’s about daddy issues and a useless ex. We shot a lovely simple yet effective video in a dirty pub, I loved it. On top, I’m currently supporting James Blunt on his arena tour through Europe, just to go on my first Headliner tour straight afterwards – from April, 20th on! Exciting times and I’m so happy to be back on the road.
3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!
First, I’m very honest. I don’t mind sharing my truth, letting people in. I love connecting with others. Second, I don’t like sticking to narrow genres. I’m so inspired by many different, different things and I love not being too predictable. Third, I might come across as very tough, a lot of my music is a metaphorical middle finger to people. But there is a soft core that just wants to be loved on. I guess like everyone else 🙂
Fourth thing people should know: I do have certain values and I will stick up for others. I will correct you, if you’re ignorant and discriminate. I feel like we all need to hold each other accountable and try to grow as people.
And last: I’m mostly in it for the writing. I write my lyrics with others too – but it’s always my stories and words. I am proud of that.
4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
Honestly, since I feel like I switch it up so much it’s hard to nail it down.
There is a bit of everything in it. Vintage, designer, new, self-made. I like sweatpants just as much as heels. Balance is the key for me!
5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
I am quite opinionated, have strong believes and I like to make that known. My love songs are always feminist, even if it’s very subtle. I write about depression, heartache, friendship or about my parents… but romantic relationships never fail to inspire me. One core mission of mine is to remind or inspire people to aim higher, when it comes to partners. Let them know they deserve the best, don’t settle for scumbags.
6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?
I always wanted to be an actress growing up. I played a lot of theatre and absolutely loved acting. I would return to it any time. But music is my first love, and will probably also be my last. I don’t think any other “talents” of mine deserve a mention here – haha.
7. Being on stage feels like….!
So many things. It’s mostly butterflies and Adrenalin rushing through your body and I love that. Even when I was a toddler, I loved sneaking up on stage when my dad performed. But I’ve also experienced the flip side of things. Standing on stage, messing something up… and then it feels like time just stops and the awkwardness will never go away. Luckily it does, and most audiences are loving and kind.
8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??
There was always music in our house. I probably started singing before I could talk. It’s like second nature to me. It wasn’t always good though – hahaha. I sounded way off when I was 13. But I spent so much time singing. Everyday after school I went home to grab my guitar and play hundreds of cover songs in my room.
I also started recording myself very early, to listen back to what I did to really learn how to become a better singer. I never had lessons though. My teenage heart was as dramatic and romantic as can be, so of course I also wrote poetry from an early age. I was born to do this I guess.
