EDOT Lawrence – „YSL“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

My pleasure. My name is EDOT Lawrence, I’m a 22 year old rapper/singer from the westcoast of Norway.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

We just dropped the new single “YSL” a couple weeks ago and followed up a week later with a music video. The song is the third part of my upcoming EP, coming out later this year. We’ve been going hard in 2021 and we’re only gonna go harder from here, so be alert for new music from me.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I’ve been writing songs for 13 years.

My favorite artist of all time is Michael Jackson.

My favorite album of all time is “Rodeo”.

I’m a voluntary loner.

And I’m 6 foot 9.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

My two most worn fashion brands are Nike and Karl Kani, which I guess in a lot of ways describe my music. A lot of the Karl Kani garments are very colorful, unpredictable, and unique, while Nike is sort of reliable and bulletproof, you can’t really go wrong with Nike. I see myself kind of that way, my music is unique, and as a person and an artist I’ve always stood out, always been the different one, unpredictable. But at the same time I have a solid foundation, 13 years of writing music. I’ve built up my confidence through the years, to where it’s almost bulletproof.

And also, I wear big ass pants ‘cus I got long ass legs.

5. What’s your songwriting process?

My songwriting process is constant. I never clock out, I might be out driving and suddenly pull over just because I thought of a dope verse, or melody, and quickly need to write it down. When I do sit down though to write, I try to clear my head of all distractions, and place myself within the theme of the song, and then the words usually roll off my tongue quite fluidly, and if not I never force it. But again, this is what I do, I’m always in music-mode, so I write constantly, I never clock out, I never stop thinking music.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Honestly I think there have been made a lot of necessary changes to the industry in the last decade, now it’s more of an open playing field, and the unfair advantages some might have had before are becoming less and less advantageous. If I could change anything though, it would probably have to be the lack of focus on the purity and natural beauty of music. I see more and more that songs are released for the sole purpose of social media trends, and going viral, which I fully understand, but me personally I want to make music that inspires and helps people.

7. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I consider myself an above average soccer and basketball player. Other than that all my time and effort goes into being the best artist I can possibly be.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

No one has ever asked me what my ultimate goal is in my music career. The answer: To achieve inner peace. It sounds corny, but it’s true. I think a lot of people in the pursuit of greatness and success can relate. When you have a passion, something you’re willing to die for, something you strive for your whole life, there’s never any logical reason for your pursuit, the hustle doesn’t make sense. But I have this fire inside of me, this voice continuously telling me to keep going, and keep moving forward. My ultimate goal is to shut that voice up, make it disappear. I might never be fully satisfied and happy with myself, or with my work, but keep going until I either drop dead, or find peace of mind.
