Día De Muertos: The new collection from Lush

This year Lush is once again launching a new collection to mark this year’s Día De Muertos (Day of the Dead). This is now available online and in all Lush shops. The collection is part of Lush’s “Co-Create” program, a product development internship for Lush employees. This promotes diversity, inclusion, equality and belonging by picking up and telling authentic stories from different communities.

Día De Muertos is a holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1st and 2nd where the living and the dead reunite. Unlike other holidays, mourning is exchanged for celebration, which is often perceived as a healing experience.

The new collection features important symbols of Mexican tradition, including the cempasúchil – a Mexican type of marigold that the sun god Tonatiuh is said to have given to people in honor of the dead.

The “Alebrijes” knot wrap features the iconic Calavera – meaning “skull” in Spanish.

“This motif pays homage to Mexico’s rich cultural tradition and heritage. The Alebrijes, mystical and colorful creatures, were my greatest source of inspiration. In Mexican cosmology, they are considered spiritual beings who accompany us beyond life and accompany us on our journey to the world of the dead or on our journey in the land of the living. Their powerful presence makes them important elements in contemporary offerings, believed to facilitate the transition of souls between different planes of existence. I have also tried to bring a very colorful style to my work because I believe that while we honor death, we must also celebrate life and its vitality.”

Cempasuchil Bath bomb

Bright colors and fragrant oils fill your bathtub with joy. Let color and scent be a bridge between worlds! The Cempasúchil flower is one of the most culturally important elements of Día de Muertos and is used as a guide for the spirits to find their way back to their families. We invite everyone to decorate their bathrooms with this incredibly scented bath bomb, just as we decorate our homes and offerings on Día de Muertos.

Cempasuchil shower gel

While revelers decorate their homes with cempasúchil garlands, pamper your skin with a marigold infusion and a little glitter as a nod to tradition. The vibrant color and scent of this beautiful blend reminds us that in pre-Hispanic culture, death was not seen as a bad thing, but as a process of transformation. May it also bring you joy on cloudy mornings or dark evenings.

Xolo Bath bomb

This bath bomb transforms an ordinary bath into a celebration, combining tradition with me-time and offering a sensory escape into the colorful world of Mexican art and mythology.
