Hi, my name is Bilgi, aka dezabel. I’m a Swiss-based songwriter and producer born and raised in Switzerland as a single son of immigrants. My music is a fusion of Pop and R&B, and I try to write relatable lyrics in which my listeners shall find themselves. In most cases collaborate with my buddy Ben Botfield out of Manchester, U.K., and songwriters and artists out of L.A. When asked to describe my music in one sentence, I call it ‚When Zurich meets L.A.‘
Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
With my new single ‚Why I Really Need,‘ I focus on love, trust, and happiness through what’s been a turbulent time. It’s about that one person you find that you can ultimately be yourself with. They know you inside out, and both accept and heal your vulnerabilities. The song emphasizes that trust, love, or happiness has no limits, not in gender, age, or skin color, and this is what the official music video showcases.
Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!
- I love challenges, I always try to achieve things that most people would say: ‘wtf, why are you trying this?’
- I love to challenge people by lighting their inside fire.
- I try to be different, not desperately hard, but I have an aversion to particular lemming behavior.
- I care about my friends and family. I’m always available for them, and they for me.
- I regard myself as a calm person. But I cannot stand two things: Lying and ignorance. It just drives me crazy
What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
My music has different influences and the topics vary too. I’d say it has the urban touch of All Saints, the casual look of 7 For All Man Kind and the sustainability of AG (Adriano Goldschmied)
Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
As mentioned previously, I’m not the guy who writes generic lyrics. I want people to think about what I’m writing; thus, one will discover details in my productions the more they listen to it, lyrically and musically. So, in other words, I don’t aim to preach or try to make a better world, but I might raise issues that we all are experiencing.
Beside music, do you have any special talents?
Friends keep telling me that I’ve got many talents. I don’t see it this way. I have many interests, and when I do or try to do things, I want to get them done the right way. For me personally, there is no 50% reached goal; it’s either 0% or 110%. However, it doesn’t mean I’ve achieved all my goals, but what I can say: „I put all my energy into trying to reach them.“
Being on stage feels like….!
I haven’t been on stage often since my solo musical journey started in late 2019, and shortly after the pandemic hit us, we all know what happened. As a member of various bands, I enjoyed the mix of adrenaline and pleasure pumping through my veins in the past.
How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??
As a boy, I tried a variety of instruments, as probably most of us did. But I always felt comfortable as a pianist, and the reason was that it’s one of the few instruments that one can play, bass, chords, and melody simultaneously. In the 90’s, I attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Zurich, where I studied Jazz harmony. A few years ago, I finished my studies in Songwriting and Production at the Berklee College of Music.
