DEAR SUNDAY – „KNOCK KNOCK“ + Exclusive Interview

Introduce yourself in a few words

G’day we are Dear Sunday! We are a 4-piece band from Western Australia that originated from 4 best mates just hanging out.

We started amongst the COVID outbreak in 2020 and have been having the greatest time writing and recording music.

Update on our single knock knock

We released knock knock at the start of 2022 and we are overwhelmed with the love and support that we have been receiving from all of our listeners. The style of music was definitely different to what we are used to writing but there has been a great reception to that so it was been super encouraging

5 things you should know about us as a band

1) We all live double lives working full time while doing Dear Sunday

2) None of us are musically trained

3) We eat nandos after every rehearsal

4) Ben is the only member that can’t land a kickflip and also he’s the only one without a motorbike so essentially he’s the least coolest member

5) We were all already good mates prior to Dear Sunday

What fashion style/brand describes your music

We’d have to go with OP shop clothing because we are affordable and diverse. Not loved enough to be kept but also at the same time loved enough to be bought.

What is your song writing process?

Most of the time Ben will send a voice memo to the group chat and no one will listen to it, then he will play it at band practice and we will all go “what is that?”
Every song has had it’s own little process of how it has come to be. We think it’s cool that songs slowly become the way they are through some magically random process each time. It really makes things interesting

What would you change about the industry?

In recent times especially, it does feel like the music and arts industry is disregarded in terms of support. Double standards for different types of events at the cost of such a crucial industry to so many people really makes you question decisions at times. The industry is very fast paced these days so it does require you to be super receptive and flexible. As much as it keeps you on your toes there definitely are certain times where we feel like we’re falling behind despite still being so active with the band commitments.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics? Messages

I’m not sure if I’m speaking for the whole band, but for me the songs almost seem like a mini movie each. Every song has a different place of influence, every song has a different main character perspective that it’s told from and every song has had a different journey as to how it became what it is in the final track. We generally like to put ourselves in a situation and write about it from that lens. Our most recent song Knock Knock came from a bit darker of a place behind Ben’s struggle with mental health. We do think it is important to talk about topics that are important to us and it really helps us to get invested into the song when it is about something that is dear to our hearts.

Questions we’d liked to be asked

What is your Nandos order?

Half a chicken with Mild and BBQ mixed basting and peri peri chips on the side and a peach Iced Tea
