Cosmo’s Midnight – ‘Gimme Some More’ feat Shungudzo + Exclusive Interview

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

Definitely have a camelback or your favorite hydration tool on hand because this album is a sweaty ride end to end, from turn of the millennium dance to disco bops your hips are expected to sway.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

So our next single is with the amazing Forest Claudette, can’t wait for everyone to treat themselves to it! New album is done and dusted and is coming through next year backed up with some extensive touring, the next iteration of the live show is going to be so exciting. Of course we also have fun new clips coming to accompany our next singles so keep your eyes fixed to see what comes next.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

Pat and I (Cosmo) are so different in our musical approaches and strengths but seeing eye to eye through Cosmo’s Midnight makes writing together such an interesting and fun process.

We have no formal music teaching. So remember trial and error and learning outside of tradition really helps forming your own style and identity.

Our live band has 4 members including me and Pat and we all come from different musical backgrounds lending to such a fun show where everyone can flex their instrumental chops, our drummer Hassett specialises in hardcore/punk and our guitarist Timi is traditionally a rock/blues guitarist but he is so insanely technical can pull off any style in a matter of hours.

We’re massive car and motorbike nerds so we always try to incorporate fun little moments with our collection in our film clips. Next step is to learn to drift so we can put that in our videos as well

We are such massive fans of 70’s era of disco and funk, we’d love to see if you can hear those influences in our album and live show, we sometimes incorporate little homages to our favourite songs in our live show to tribute the amazing music that has inspired us and so many other musicians we look up to.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Kaleidoscopic, just like our music we draw from many styles and collage it all together, pattern clash cohesion through asymmetry. It’s fun to see how you can pair seemingly at odds concepts and make them work through strong production or confidence.

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

There is a running theory that the Simpsons have been predicting the future like the trump presidency and coronavirus. The writers have always had their finger on the pulse but the idea of them looking into a crystal ball to write a comedy show???

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

think it’s rare for people within the industry to be transparent about burn out, whether it be from touring or writing. Continual productivity is literally impossible and it would be cool to see people opening up about how fatiguing it can be despite all the amazing blessings that come with music being your career.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

The songs of our upcoming album cover a variety of concepts, some are about celebrating the differences you have within your relationship, while others mourn the distance you have between each other whilst on long tour cycles. One of our favourite tracks yet to come out talks about removing thought from enjoyment, purely feeling instinctively can be so therapeutic and is a massive undercurrent of our album. Leave your thoughts at the door and lose yourself to dance.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?!

If you could’ve written any song that has been released by another artist what would it be?

I think about this all the time and have a long list of candidates from so many different genres but I would say one of my favourite songs of the last few decade would be MGMT – Electric Feel. I can’t fault it in any way. To me it is perfect song writing and the fact that it’s written in a weird time signature that never really works in pop music is so cool.
