Connor Roff – “Sunlight” + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

Well it’s very hot in Vancouver right now, so I would suggest you sit back and sip on an iced coffee or kombucha while listening to my music.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I can’t say too much right now, but I just put out a new single titled „Sunlight“ followed by a cute gay relationship inspired lyric video. My next single comes out Sept 14th and right now it just feels good to be releasing music again. There will be more of an update later. 😉

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

A conspiracy theory I heard recently that made me laugh is that King Charles is a vampire. Apparently he is related to Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and many royals in Charles’s bloodline were known to have the disease porphyria, which is an iron deficiency that causes people to be more sensitive to sunlight.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Vogue. I’m kidding haha. I would say, something more down to earth or environmentally focused. There’s a cool brand that focuses on yoga attire for men which I’ve bought some stuff from in the past called So We Flow.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

I’m very inspired by nature and through my own experiences regarding mental health, LGBT+ advocacy, yoga philosophy and spirituality. Normally though I don’t put too much thought into the songs that come out of my mouth. I find it’s more about falling into a rhythm with it. I don’t believe you create the song, I believe the song comes to you. It’s just about allowing and creating that space to do so. Much easier said than done. There’s a brilliant book by Rick Rubin titled „The Creative Act: A Way of Being“, which I’ve been reading recently and has very much resonated with me.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’m not sure if I would call it a talent, but I do teach yoga full time here in Vancouver. I fell in love with the practice while I was still living in London, England. And that’s taken me down a path entirely unexpected, but in the most beautiful way. It is my second passion and work. I needed something to compliment the mad ups and downs of being a musician and yoga became exactly that.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I’ve grown up in both Vancouver, Canada and London, England.

I spend a lot of time in my apartment in Vancouver writing songs or playing my piano and watching bad TV.
I love to be outside in nature, hiking, camping, on the beach, etc.
Coffee is the way to my heart.

I’m single. 😛

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I first started with piano lessons as a kid around 7 years old. Apparently I’ve always sang, even as a baby in the backseat of the car while my parents would play pavarotti. No memory of that one haha. I started writing soon after I taught myself to play guitar as a moody, pent up, in the closet teenager. Performing in musicals as a young adult and being part of a mega choir called London Contemporary Voices in London also supported me on my singer-songwriter journey. There’s been so many little pieces along the way, it’s hard to narrow it down and I believe you’re always evolving and learning as an artist.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls.

What’s your favourite yoga pose?

Right now, pincha mayurasana, or forearm balance pose. 😀
